Sanchez's 2 Homers Lead to Blowout of Lightning

Andres Sanchez moved into 2nd place on the Falcons single season home run record books with his 11th and 12th HR's of the season. His 1st blast tied him with 2008 graduate Rolando Gomez (11 HR) in 2006. The record is held by 2000 graduate Mike Napoli who led the State with 17 HR's his Senior season.

Flanagan(15-2, 8-1) pounded out 17 runs on 12 hits en route of Cypress Bay 17-2. The Lightning fell to 7-9 overall, 4-5 in District 12. In the 1st inning the Falcons jumped out in front 2-0 on an RBI single by Mike Melendez scoring Robert Collin who walked. Melendez then came around to score on back to back wild pitches. Flanagan would go on to score 3 runs in the 2nd and 2 more runs in the 3rd before blowing the game open with a 10 run 4th inning. Sanchez would hit a 1-2 curveball out to left field to lead off the 4th inning and his 3 run blast to centerfield would come later that same inning. Zack Collins(2 for 3, 2B, HR, RBI) and Matthew Figueroa(2 for 2, 3 runs, 2 RBI) had multi-hits in the game. Ryan Lozada reached base all 3 at bats going 1 for 1 with 2 walks and 2 runs scored.

Mike Emigh(5-0) was the recipient of all the offense hurling the complete game 5 hitter. He allowed 1 earned run with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts over the 5 innings of work.

The Falcons travel to West Broward on Thursday for a showdown for 1st place in District 12 against the Bobcats. West Broward(10-7, 8-0) won the 1st matchup 4-3 for the lone blemish on the Falcons District record.

JV Sweeps Double Header vs. Cypress Bay

The Falcons JV continued their winning streak by sweeping the Lightning 16-3 and 11-7 to improve their record to 10-0-1. Logan Morales picked up the win in game 1 pitching 4.2 innings allowing just 1 earned run on 2 hits. he struck out 5 on the day. Rudy Reyes pitched 2.1 innings of relief without giving up a run and just 1 hit. Offensively Benito Santiago continued his torrid hitting smacking 2 home runs and driving in 6 runs. Andres Visbal had 3 hits and 3 RBI while Christian Nelson added 2 hits and 3 runs scored.

In game 2 the Falcons were led by Visbal, Brandon Melendez and Alex Sarmiento who had 2 hits a piece. Tyler Neville picked up the win pitching a strong 4 innings. Peter Llerena and Alex Sarmiento pitched the final 3 innings of relief as the Falcons won their 10th straight game. 

The Falcons JV will be home next saturday when they host Nova for a double header starting at 10am.

Offense Blasts 6 Home Runs in Route of Gators

The Falcons offense exploded for 6 HR's in a 21-5 route of Everglades. Zack Collins hit two 2 run HR's, Rob Collin hit his 1st HR of the season a 2 run shot in the 2nd inning, Danny Zardon and Andres Sanchez hit back to back solo HR's to start the 3rd inning and Matt Beauchemin hit a pinch hit Grand Slam to cap a 12 run 4th inning. Sanchez finished the night 3 for 3 with 3 runs and 3 RBI. He was a double shy of cycle.

Jose Mesa (4-0) pitched 3 innings for the win. The righthander was touched up for 4 runs on 4 hits, he walked 4 and struck out 4. Mike Emigh pitched the final 2 innings allowing just 1 run on 1 hit while striking out 4 batters.

Flanagan improves to 14-2, 7-1 in District 12; Everglades drops to 5-8, 0-8 in the District.
