Charles W. Flanagan High School Baseball

Flanagan had everything they needed to make a repeat trip to Port St. Lucie. Everything except time. The Falcons(22-3) Battled back from an early deficit to take the lead 3-2 in the 2nd inning. After giving up back to back doubles to open the game the Falcons found themselves in an early hole 2-0. As they've done all year they rallied in the bottom of the 2nd inning scoring 3 runs off of Park Vista starter Ryan Pistey. A lead off walk to Danny Zardon, Andres Sanchez reached on a hit by pitch and a base hit by Zack Collins loaded the bases. The Falcons would get on the board when DH Gabby Auerrecoechea was hit by pitch. Matthew Figueroa's RBI ground out tied the score and a sacrifice fly by Ryan Lozada gave the Falcons a 3-2 lead until the 5th.

In the 6th inning Park Vista(23-7) took the lead 7-3 on a 2 run triple followed by a 2 run home run from Cobra SS Trea Turner.

The Falcons would cut the lead to 7-5 in the bottom of the inning when Zardon singled to left and Andres Sanchez drove a high towering HR to left field, his 17th HR of the season.

In the bottom of the 7th inning Flanagan would be down to their final strike when Sr. OF Robert Collin lined a triple to right centerfield, Mike Melendez followed with a hard hit line drive base hit to left scoring Collin. With the tying run on 1st So. OF Danny Zardon would hit a line drive to center field that just hung in the air for the final out of the game and the season for the Falcons.

Park Vista advances to the State Semifinal on Monday May 23rd where they will face Tampa-Alonso the 2009 6A State Champion.

Flanagan advances to the Regional Final for the 7th time in 8 seasons by dismantling West Broward 12-2. Sr. shortstop Ricky Santiago had a banner night going 4 for 5 hitting 2 home runs and driving in 6 runs. The Falcons jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the 1st inning on a 2 run triple by Andres Sanchez who broke the Flanagan single season RBI record with his 48th and 49th RBI of the season. 2002 graduate Roger Tomas held the record with 47. Danny Zardon went 3 for 4 with his 6th HR of the season and Mike Melendez continued his HR streak going 2 for 4 with a solo shot in the 4th inning.

Melendez(8-2) earned the win scattering 6 hits allowing 2 runs and striking out 4 over 6 innings.

Flanagan(22-2) will host Park Vista(22-7) on Friday May 13th at 7:00pm in the Regional Final. The Falcons(2005,06,07,10) and Cobras(2008,09) are the only 2 teams to represent Region 3 in the past 6 years at the State Tournament.
