JV loses Double header to Coral Springs

Posted by Ray Evans at Mar 25, 2012 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

The JV traveled to Coral Springs for a late doubleheader on Saturday. Little did they know the Colts were going to send them back home with 2 losses.

In Game 1 the Falcons lost 6-5 in the bottom of the last inning on an error in the outfield. Kevin Mora was 2-3 with 2 RBI's and Ryan Dodge was 2-2 with a 2B,  a HBP and scored 2 runs. Andres Rios was running wild on the base paths with 3 stolen bases.

With the score tied in the top of the sixth inning, Dodge got things going with a single. Mora drove him in with a double for his second RBI of the game to take a 5-4 lead into the bottom of the 6th inning. The game ended when a routine fly ball, that got lost in the sun, dropped allowing the baserunners to score to put the Colts ahead for good. Scotty Swatscheno took the unfortunate loss for the Falcons.

In Game 2 it got very ugly. The Falcons could not rebound from Game 1 and lost miserably 10-2. It was a close game going into the 5th inning at 3-2, but with errors, walks and timely hits, the Colts were able to score 7 runs in the inning. David Sarmiento went 1-1 with a BB and 2 SB's. Peter Guarner pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up 3 earned runs on 6 hits and took the loss.

The JV (8-4) will conclude its season this Saturday when they play their final doubleheader at home against West Broward. Game times are 10am & 1pm.

The JV scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th for a 13-12 come from behind win to improve their record to 8-2.

The Tornadoes jumped out to a quick 2-0 in the top of the 1st inning only to have the young Falcons answer back with 4 runs of their own in the bottom of the 1st inning. The Falcons struck again in the 3rd inning with 7 runs  giving them a comfortable 11-7 lead going into the 5th inning, or so they thought. The Tornadoes capitalized on a 2 out error to score 5 runs and take the lead, 12-11. In the bottom of the 5th inning Brandon Escalante led off with his second double of the game. He was followed by pinch hitter Ramon Garcia who singled. After a strikout, Alex Sarmiento doubled to drive in Escalante and tie the game, 12-12. Oscar Rodriguez came up to bat looking for the cycle only to be hit by a pitch. David Sarmiento stepped up to bat and delivered the game winning single over the centerfielders head to win the game 13-12.

Alejandro Garcia started on the hill for the Falcons and went 2 innings before being relieved by Peter Guarner in the third. Guarner pitched the 3rd inning and Scotty Swatscheno came in to pitch the 4th and 5th inning to gain the victory.

Oscar Rodriguez - 3-3, 2B, 3B, HBP, 2 RBI's

David Sarmiento - 2-4, 2 RBI's

Brandon Escalante - 2-2, 2-2B's, 3 RBI's
