Falcons Win 7th in a Row

Posted by Ray Evans at Apr 13, 2012 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

The Falcons beat Timber Creek 3-1 to win their 7th game in a row and improve their record to 15-4. With the Timberwolves traveling down from Orlando in a rain storm the Falcon staff did everything possible to make sure the game was played.

Wasn't a lot of offense on this night with the Falcons only getting 4 hits on the evening.  Rafael Betances led off the 2nd inning with a single and moved to third after a walk and a passed ball. With 2 outs Daniel Oliveri drove in Betances to open up the scoring and give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. Ryan Dodge got a big 2 out double to drive in a run in the 3rd inning to make the score 2-0. The Falcons scored their final run in the 4th without ever getting a hit. The Falcons walked twice, sacrificed the runners over and then scored on a wild pitch.

Jose Mesa (8-1) started and went 5 strong innings. He got into some trouble in the 6th when he gave up 1 hit and loaded the bases up with 2 walks. Mesa handed the ball over to Gentry Fortuno to try and get out of the bases loaded no out jam. After an error at short and the score at 3-1, Fortuno was able to strikeout the next hitter and get a crucial 1-2-3 double play ball to end the threat. Fortuno took care of the 7th by striking out 3 to end the game and gain his first save.

The Falcons (15-4, 10-0) will play it's final regular season game on Friday, April 20th against Taravella. That game is designated as this year's Senior Night game.

What started as a laugher suddenly turned into a barn burner in the end.The Falcons held on by the skin of their teeth and escaped with a 9-7 victory over Pembroke Pines Charter Tuesday night.

The Falcons came out swinging early and took a 8-0 lead after 2  1/2 innings. Ryan Dodge got the first big hit with a 2 RBI double in the 1st inning. Pines Charter outscored the Falcons 7-1 from the 3rd inning on.

Michael Emigh was struggling off and on but was getting out of trouble until a key error in right field with 2 outs and bases loaded cost 3 unearned runs to get the Jaguars back in the game at 8-4. Emigh left the game after 3 innings of work giving up 4 hits and only 2 earned runs.  Gentry Fortuno came on in relief to pitch the final 4 innings to get the win. JV Sweep the Bobcats to End Season

Posted by Ray Evans at Apr 1, 2012 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

The young Falcons ended their season on an impressive note by sweeping the cross town rivals, West Broward, 10-0 in the 1st game and 3-2 in the 2nd game of the doubleheader.

On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, the Falcons showed who just might stay in control of the district for years to come. In Game 1 of the doubleheader, the Falcons were in control from the first pitch with Gentry Fortuno on the hill in his first JV start of the season. Fortuno would go the distance for the complete game victory. Allowing only a two out single in the 3rd inning, he would finish with the complete game 1 hit shutout. With the impressive performance of Fortuno on the hill, the offense was doing plenty to support him.  Kevin Mora put on a hitting display the Bobcats will remember for a long time. He started his offensive onslaught in the 2nd inning with a two run homerun. He continued in the 4th inning with a line drive off the center field fence driving in two more runs helping the Falcons to score 7 runs in the inning. Mora finished the game 3-3 with a Homerun, 2 2B's, and an intentional walk with 4 RBI's. Ivan Santiago also got in on the fun with a Grand Slam over the centerfield fence in the 4th inning and hit a single in the 5th to drive in the 10th run to end the game by the mercy rule, 10-0.

Game 2 was much more dramatic, but ended with the same outcome, a Falcons victory! Trailing for much of the game, Flanagan found themselves down 2-0 in the 2nd inning with runners still in scoring position. The pitching and great defense put a stop to the scoring. Oscar Rodriguez set the tone defensively by throwing a perfect strike to Miguel Presno to cut down a runner for the third and final out of the inning to stop any more scoring. With 2 outs in the 5th inning the Falcons finally got something going offensive. Andres Rios and Ivan Santiago walked an were followed by Oscar Rodriguez who got HBP. With the bases loaded Ryan Dodge delivered a single to left driving in 2 runs tying the game, 2-2. With Scotty Swatscheno shutting down the Bobcat offense, Brandon Escalante started the bottom of the 7th with a pinch hit single. Rios followed that up with a double, reaching base for the 4th time, putting runners at 2nd and 3rd. Oscar Rodriguez came up big again with a single over the centerfielders head to win the game 3-2 and complete the sweep.

The JV finishes the season 10-4 setting high expectations for the program for years to come.
