Falcons No-Hit Patriots

Posted by Ray Evans at Mar 19, 2013 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Kharlin Sued and Zach Finch combined to pitch a no-hitter against the Miramar Patriots Tuesday night. Only one baserunner was allowed the entire evening. The first hitter of the evening reached base on a throwing error by Sued, which ended up being the only blemish of the evening. If not for that, we would have been looking at a perfect game. Sued had 10 strikeouts in 4 innings while Finch had 4 strikeouts in 2 innings.

The bats were slow to start, but came around to end the game in 6 innings by a score of 10-0. AJ Munoz had 2 hits and scored 2 runs while Brandon Melendez also had 2 hits with 1 RBI and 1 run scored. David Sarmiento and Miguel Presno got in on the fun as well. Presno had a 2 RBI single and 2 walks while Sarmiento had 1 hit, 1 RBI with 2 walks and 2 stolen bases. Kevin Mora capped the evening off with a game ending double to the right center field gap to score the 10th run in the bottom of the 6th inning.

The Falcons (9-2, 6-0) take the show on the road to Western this Thursday night at 6:30pm for a district contest.

Falcons JV Sweep Spartans

Posted by Ray Evans at Mar 10, 2013 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

The Falcons JV continued their winning ways with a two game sweep of visiting Hollywood Hills this past Saturday. Flanagan looked in midseason form in all aspects of the game. The brought two games of big offense, consistent defense and stellar pitching to make the wins look easy.

Game 1 started quickly for the Falcons offense as they scored 7 runs in the first inning. They were just getting started as they went on to score 17 in the first game. Luis Barranco got the top of the lineup going with 2 hits and 2 runs scored. Dakota Doyle and Lorenzo Hooker added 2 hits a piece with Michael Perez scoring 3 runs and adding 2 RBI's. Steven Gonzalez pitched a 5 inning complete game shutout, allowing no runs on 1 hit while striking out 7 and walking none.

Game 2 wasn't much of a change from game one. The Falcons started early again, and from almost every spot in the lineup. Marcus Villalobos, Edward Schissler and Lorenzo Hooker all had 2 hits a piece with Schissler and Michael Perez scoring 3 runs each. The dominate pitching continued in game 2 with starter Christian Monero pitching 3 scoreless innings for the win. Peter Guarner threw the final 2 innings striking out 6 consecutive hitters to finish the day.

The JV (4-1) couldn't have asked for a better Saturday combining for 35 runs and giving up none in two games. They look forward to a midseason matchup with Coral Springs on Wednesday at home at 6:30.

Fortuno Shuts Down Bobcats

Posted by Ray Evans at Mar 8, 2013 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

The Falcons visited the Bobcats den Friday afternoon and left with a 6-0 shutout win to stay atop the district at 4-0.

Gentry Fortuno (4-0) threw another gem, limiting the Bobcats to 2 hits on the day while striking out 4 and walking none. He threw 71 pitches in the complete 7 inning game shutout. Fortuno was in complete control the entire game with only three Bobcats even reaching base on the day.

The offense seemed to continue to improve. The Falcons had 11 hits on the day and didn't have a single strikeout. Andres Visbal and David Sarmiento led the way with 3 hits a piece. Sarmiento got the first big hit on the day in the top of the 4th to start the scoring when he hit a double to drive in Ryan Dodge, who had walked. AJ Munoz then came up with his biggest hit of the season when he drove in Oscar Rodriguez and David Sarmiento with a 2 out single for 2 RBI's to make the score 3-0.

The scoring continued in the top of the 6th when Sarmiento led off the inning with his 2nd double of the afternoon, and then stole 3rd base. Munoz came up next and hit a sac fly to get his 3rd RBI on the day which made the score 4-0.

In the top of the 7th inning Andres Visbal led off the inning with a long homerun to dead centerfield where he had just hit a double off the fence two innings before. Ryan Dodge followed that up with a double and Oscar Rodriguez then singled, but was called out trying to stretch it to second on a questionable call at best. David Sarmiento then came up with his 3rd double of the afternoon to drive in Dodge for his 2nd RBI making the score 6-0.

The Falcons (7-2, 4-0) will take to the road again on Thursday when they travel to Everglades for a first place showdown. The game is slated to start at 3:45.
