2000 Jets Season

Posted by Dave Rea at Aug 5, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
The 2000 season saw us begin a new era, Buckeye Youth Football. No longer were the Jags the only team from Buckeye, the Jets were born. We signed up 140 players and cheerleaders which doubled us from the 1999 season. We had started 2 flag teams in 1999 and renamed the Panthers Flag team the Jets to go with their new Varsity and JV teams.

The 2000 season brought excitement and growing pains, sort of the good with the bad, but we survived and again pushed forward as we had done the first 4 seasons.

Cleatus Varney and Scot Asvestas changed colors as they went over to coach the Jets, we welcomed aboard some new faces, Kim Watkins, the Jets Head Cheer Coach, Steve Watkins, the Jets JV Head Coach, and his brother Scott Watkins, who was a JV Assistant. Kim had been with the Steelers prior to coming over to the Jets.

We even saw father and son go head to head as Jag player Dustin Supan's father Rock became a Jets Varsity Coach. All in all things worked out and the program continued to expand due in part to the continuity of the coaching staff who for the most part were in their 3rd season together.

The Jets got their first win in a home game against the Browns (also the Jags first victim in 1998) and they finished a 1-6. The kids were excited to play and had were eager learners. The Jets got off on the right foot due to the Jaguars having been established, and both staffs worked together as Coach Rea was the Head Coach of both teams. They laid a solid foundation and we expect big things from them in the years to come. We are certain 3 or 4 years down the road the Jets will be champions too!

Jags Former Cheer Coach

Former Jags Cheer Coach Heather Jamison was at the Browns/Chiefs game with BYFA.  She is posing above right with the Browns mascot which made us remember she was seen one other time posing with a mascot.  She was the Jags Varsity Cheer coach back in 1999 and 2000 when they won Back-2-Back BYF Championships.  I guess when you win championships you get to go to Disneyworld.  (We just think she has a thing for people in hot furry costumes). image

2000 Jaguars Season

Posted by Dave Rea at Jul 15, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
The Jaguars started their 5th season and Championship defense with 9 starters from the 1999 team returning and 7 players moving up from last year's JV team. This mix would allow the Jags to continue the juggernaut that they started back in 1999 when they finished the season on a 5-0 win streak.

The Jags came out running at full throttle in the opener, as the defense, which set the tone in each game, scored on the 4th play of first series of the first game. They blocked a Colts punt and Ben DiMarco recovered it for a TD in the endzone. They finished the season in much the same way as it ended on an interception by Dustin Supan on the final play of the 2000 Championship game in a 26-6 win over the same Colts to add their 9th win to cap off an 8-0 regular season and another BYF Championship Season.

The Teal & Black Attack went Back2Back and cut nobody slack in 2000!

2002 Buccaneers Season

Posted by Dave Rea at Mar 13, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
The 2002 season was the 2nd go round for the Buccaneers. They returned almost their entire squad from 2001. This showed that they had built a good foundation for the future. They brought a very competitive squad to the field and were successful all season long in the JV ranks of BYF.

Head Coach Scot Asvestas returned along with assistant Steve Hunt, and they teamed with new coach Scott Gilbert to make a very solid coaching team for these young players.

The kids learned about the game, practiced and played hard, and most important had a whole lot of fun playing. JV Cheer Coach Kelly Hunt returned for her second season and did another superb job with her girls too. The hope is still there for an expansion into the Varsity ranks, however the sign-up numbers will tell the tale.

2002 Jaguars Season

Posted by Dave Rea at Mar 13, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
In 2002 season the Jags reached the playoffs for the 4th consecutive year, and lost in the 1st round to the eventual Champion Chargers. The finished 4-3 on their 7th campaign and will look forward to getting some returners back, along with the JV move ups in 2003.

The Coaching staff had a little makeover as Ken Pekarek and Bob Morcom left us, while Lee Mercer and Tom Ward remained, and welcomed Chuck Magel up from JV. They put alot of work in to get this new group of players molded into a team. They look forward to 2003 and another chance to take a run at a 3rd BYF Championship.

The Jag Cheer Squads maintained their usual standard of excellence and they had another fine year under Head Cheer Coach Wren Roskey, who completed her 5th season.
