TO ALL REGISTERED PLAYERS

Posted by Michael Polikoff at Sep 30, 2008 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Now that you have registered to play in the Forest Hills Basketball League for the 2009 season your next step is to attend the REQUIRED player evaluations and ratings session for your age group according to the schedule shown on the next page. Your “age” is the age you will be on December 31, 2009:

This year we are implementing a new procedure for the purpose of evaluating our players. We will be holding 2 mandatory evaluation sessions; the first round will involve basic skills drills and a limited scrimmage. The second round will involve scrimmages only with the league administration moving the players from one squad to another as we attempt to balance out the division.

Round 1:
Ages 11, 12     Monday, October 5
Ages 13, 14     Wednesday, October 7
Ages 9, 10      Thursday, October 8

Please check the following schedule for your specific time to arrive. The schedule has been prepared alphabetically ACCORDING TO YOUR LAST NAME in order to minimize the overcrowding that previously took place in the waiting area and the length of time parents had to wait for their children to be evaluated. Please do not come at any other time except the one for which you are scheduled. We will NOT take players out of the order set forth on the schedule:

Oct 5 – ages 11, 12:
Letters A through I                          report at 6:30 pm
Letters J through R                         report at 7:00pm
Letters S through Z                         report at 7:30 pm

Oct 7– ages 13, 14:
Letters A through I                          report at 6:30 pm
Letters J through R                         report at 7:00 pm
Letters S through Z                         report at 7:30 pm

Oct 8 – ages 9, 10:
Letters A through I                          report at 6:30 pm
Letters J through R                         report at 7:00pm
Letters S through Z                         report at 7:30 pm

Round 2:
Ages 9, 10     Saturday, October 10      9am (all players)
Ages 11, 12    Saturday, October 10     11am (all players)
Ages 13, 14    Saturday, October 10     1pm (all players)

All sessions will be held at Halsey Junior High School located at 102nd Street and 64th Ave, Rego Park. Enter the gym through the metal door on 64th Ave.

Please allow approximately 1 ½  hours for your evaluation session. You may wear shorts or sweatpants, T-shirt or tank top, and you must be wearing sneakers. We suggest you bring a bottle of water with you in case the school fountains are not working. Parents are encouraged to help support our League by purchasing FHBL merchandise while you wait.

The player evaluations and ratings session is MANDATORY. It enables us to rate your skill level so that we can form the teams in your division as fairly as possible. Failure to show up for your evaluation makes it impossible for us to know your skill level and to make an informed decision as to where you should be placed.

Upon arrival, report to the Reception Desk to register for your evaluation and to receive your numbered tag. Listen carefully for your number to be called – If you don’t listen, you won’t hear the announcement. When you are finished with your evaluation, remove your tag and safety pin before leaving the building.

PARENTS ARE NOT PERMITTED INTO THE 2ND GYM WHERE THE EVALUATIONS ARE TAKING PLACE.
PLEASE DO NOT DISRUPT THE SESSIONS BY TRYING TO PEAK INSIDE.

If you have any questions, please contact the via email.

2008 BASKETBALL CLINIC SCHEDULE

Posted by Michael Polikoff at Sep 30, 2008 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Our Basketball Basic Training teaches our younger players the basic skills and understanding needed to enjoy the game. The program is open to players ages 5 through 8 who are grouped with players their own age. We have planned twelve 50 minute sessions, which will be held on Saturday mornings at P.S. 174 located on Ellwell Crescent between Alderton St. and 65 Drive. Two experienced coaches with a strong knowledge of the game and the creativity to make it fun for the children will coach this year’s program.

Based on your child’s age he/she will attend the following time:

  • Those born in 2002 or 2003 are considered 5 and 6 yrs old for our program and should arrive at 9 a.m. if your last name begins with the letters A – M.
  • Those born in 2002 or 2003 are considered 5 and 6 yrs old for our program and should arrive at 10 a.m. if your last name begins with the letters N – Z.
  • Those born in 2001 are considered 7 yrs old for our program and should arrive at 11 a.m.
  • Those born in 2000 are considered 8 yrs old for our program and should arrive at 12 p.m.

************************************************************************

Our season schedule for Basketball Basic Training will be on the following Saturdays:

  • October 25
  • November 1, 8, 15, 22
  • December 6, 13, 20
  • January 10, 17, 24, 31

All children will be provided with a full uniform that must be worn at each session.

Be advised that the League does not provide transportation and every child’s parent or guardian must stay in the gym during your child’s session. Parents should NOT consider this basketball program as a babysitting service.

WE ENCOURAGE PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT IN THIS CLINIC.

If you have any questions, please contact the via email.

All senior division players must report for a player evaluation-scrimmage on Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010 at P.S. 101 located at 2 Russel Place, Forest Hills at 1 p.m.

This scrimmage will take the place of the player evaluations and ratings that were used in prior years to form the teams in your division. By holding a mandatory scrimmage the league administrators will be able to not only observe your skill level but also the way you participate in a game situation.

Allow 2 hours for this scrimmage. You must wear basketball shorts, an appropriate jersey (or T-shirt) and sneakers.  Bring something to drink.

Team placement will be based on this and other scrimmages, however, the league reserves the right to re-form any team early in the season in order to make the league fair and balanced.

All senior games this season will be played at P.S. 101 on Tuesday evenings and Sunday afternoons.

The schedule for the next round of scrimmages and evaluations will be discussed at the Oct. 31 work out but please keep your schedule open for Sunday  afternoons and Tuesday evenings.
