Westchester FC who made up a double header and took 3 points on a forfeit has now bumped to the top of the Leaders Board with 19 points. Real Cotija who had a bye this past week drops to second place. Westchester FC and Real Cotija are scheduled to meet in two weeks which possibly could determine this years winner. Of course there are a few other teams who also have their sights on the top spot. Morazán got back on the winning track by easily defeating Atlas 8-1. El Carmen proved they have to be taken seriously by edging out Honduras 2-1. Real Sociedad and Sport Peru played to a tough 0-0 draw so only got 1 point added to their totals.

Point totals are really close and everyone is fighting for those top 4 positions which will receive automatic byes into the second round of the playoffs. A simple win and 3 points could mean the difference in positioning for 6 teams.

Real Sociedad became the first winner of the EDSL Tournament of Champions from the Liga De Yonkers division of the EDSL.
Real Sociedad won the game by the score of 3-2 vs. another LDY team Morazán, this is the first time that 2 teams from the same division of the EDSL faced each other in the final game.

  1. Marco Ramirez scored twice and #7 Alex Alvarez scored the other goal that gave Real Sociedad 2 the victory
Half time it was 2- 0 for the Real. Morazán came back to make it 2-1 on a goal from forward Wilbert Molina.
Morazan pressed to tie the game but where hit by a counter attack and Real score again to make it 3-1. Morazán forward Nilson Gutierez scored again toward the end of regulation time and even after over 5 minutes of extra time, Morazán could not complete their comeback.
Excellent job was done by the referee crew Ref Rafal Siudnik, AR’s Ashwanth Vijayan and Rob Miller.
Special mention has to be given to the Morazán goal keeper Cristobal Mora for keeping Morazán in the game by making sensational saves on Real Sociedad forwards.
Also a special thanks to Enrico and Cathy Romano for the excellent job done for the entire season on assigning referees to all of our games.
Real Sociedad will be now representing the EDSL at the State Sal Rapaglia Champions Cup in the 3rd week of September 2014.

This past weekend was suppose to be a “black out” weekend because of the 4th of July, but Liga de Yonkers was so many games behind we decided to play and play they did.

Real Cotija regained the top spot in the standings defeating Monarcas 5-0. Real Cotija seems like the team to beat this year. Westchester F.C. , which had the most games to make up played a double header and came away with 2 wins defeating “EDSL Tournament of Champion” winner Real Sociedad 1-0 is an extremely tough game and then Atlas 5-0. Morazán and Sport Peru battled to a 1-1 tie and El Carmen defeated San Lorenzo 2-0 in a continuation of a suspended game.

With 5 weeks left to play in the regular season the standings are just to close to call and a 3 point win can change the positions of the top teams. The next 4 teams are separated by a mere 1 or 2 points.

Metapan has forfeited out of the league. Possibly the competition was just too tough but the others are getting ready for a fast and furious finish!

Real Sociedad Take the TOC

Posted by Open-Liga de Yonkers at Jul 1, 2014 6:08AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

It was an all “Liga de Yonkers” final with Real Sociedad and Morazán meeting in the Championship Game played at Fleming Field. Liga de Yonkers sends 4 teams to this 16 team championship tournament and 3 out of the final four were from Liga de Yonkers this year. This was the best showing we have had since the start of the Tournament 4 years ago. All 16 teams are true champions and it is a great honor to compete against them and this year luckily win against each and everyone of them. Real Sociedad defeated Morazán 3-2 in a tough played final match. Real Sociedad scored first and was ahead 2-0 nothing at half but a determined Morazán team stayed in the game with aggressive play but just couldn’t keep up with Real Sociedad in the end. Real Sociedad just seemed quicker and was one step in front of Morazán the whole match. Morazán has lost in the finals the past 2 years but vows to be back next year. Real Sociedad is basking in their victory and looking forward to the EDSL Dinner Dance in October where they will get their proper recogination.

Real Sociedad now advances to Stae Tournament!!!!

Liga de Yonkers wants to thank EDSL and its board of directors who attended the matches and conducted an excellent tournament. It is an honor to play for the Eastern District Soccer League

Week 8 Recap

Posted by Open-Liga de Yonkers at Jul 1, 2014 6:06AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

San Lorenzo and Real Sociedad played to a tough 4-4 tie at Pelton but the one point received by San Lorenzo was good enough to put them in first place for the first time this season. San Lorenzo is a well balanced team and when they come to play is tough to beat. Real Socidad had played earlier in the day and had won the EDSL Champions Cup and just didn’t have the energy in the second game.

Hondurs looked sharp defeating C.D.Juventud 4-1 with only 9 players. Juventud scored first and early in the first half but then it was all Honduras. Atlas and Sport Peru both received wins on forfeits this week. I think World Cup action was just too much to pass on. Real Cotija and Monarcas didn’t play this week. The week off caused Cotija to slip to second this week but with a game still to be played you know they want to regain that top spot.

There is still 5 weeks of regular play the points are really close. Anything can and probably will happen.
