CSSA Board of Directors Meeting
March 7, 2016
Present: Dewey Hom, Commissioner; Warren Butler, Vice Commissioner; Glenn Peacock, Secretary; Ken Taylor, Treasurer; Mike Parson, American League Director; Ron O’Donnell, Master League Director; Ray DeLuca, Senior League Director; Jerry Bohacek, Legends League Director; Bruce Stokes, Lowell Lawson League Director; Scott Parrish, Player Representative
Absents: Randy Bergman, Legacy League Director
Dewey Homs called the meeting to order at 6:35 pm
Secretary Minutes: February minutes presented and passed unanimously.
Treasurers Report: Beginning balance $5,287.64, ending balance $6,163.04
Revenue: $5,325.02
Expenses: $4449.62
Discussed and passed unanimously.
Topics discussed:
Uniforms have been ordered. Schedules being proofed and printed.
Technology: A discussion by the board took place on how best to apply an application(s) so that statistics can be inputted by the scorekeepers in real time. This is being pursued with the goal of lowering cost and efficiency. Also, how to input player waiver and emergency information so that in the case of emergency appropriate people can be notified in a timely manner. Scott Parrish will be the person in charge of this fact finding endeavor
Illegal Bats: Mike Carrigan presented a update list of unacceptable bats. Check with your League Director for any questions or queries.
Umpires will be on the watch for any player who is using an altered bat. Any player caught using an altered bat may be suspended up to one year. All bats must be ASA approved.
Any player who is in doubt about their bat(s) should have the umpire check the bat before the start of the game and or season.
Senior League will check any bat that resulted in a traditional home run. (over the fence).
Softballs: One new softball per game to be supplied by the home team. The visiting team will supply a used softball.
First aid kits: The board will be procuring first aid kits so that minor injuries can be attended in the event of any injuries.
Screens: American League and Lowell Lawson League will be using pitching screens during the games. The League Directors will discuss with players any rules that apply using said screens.

Recruiting Players: Suggestions were made in the attempt to increase the number of people to respond to our tryouts in the spring and fall. Suggestions such as community newsletters, yard signs and advertising banners were discussed.
Dewey Hom thanked the board for the hard work that has been done over these last months to assure a successful opening of a new softball season.

Motion: No drafted Gold Senior League player(s) are eligible for the Lowell Lawson League. No drafted American League player(s) are eligible to play in the Legacy League. Discussed and voted on. Passed 8-0.

Sponsors: Need sponsors to commit so jerseys can be ordered for the spring season.

Start of the Spring 2016 season, March 14, 2016 will be the start of the upcoming season.

Other topics: To expand our league to include having a Senior women softball league. This is a topic to be discussed further at future meetings.

Dewey Hom called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm

Secretary Minutes: Read and discussed, voted on unanimously to accept as presented.

Treasurers Report: Beginning balance $5391.82 Ending balance $5391.82
The budget was discussed and voted on unanimously to accept as presented.

Topics discussed:Tryout/Evaluation Dates February 6th (Saturday) and 7th (Sunday)February 13th (Saturday and 14th (Sunday)All tryouts will be held at Hobgood Park between 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm.

March 14, 2016 will be the start of the upcoming season.

Sponsors: Still receiving sponsor fees for upcoming season (spring).

CRPA Banquet: Several Board members attended the CRPA banquet as guest of the CRPA.

League Updates: After much discussion the board agreed to adhere to last meeting’s resolution that all leagues will abide by the same rules as relating to use of ASA approved bats only.

Motion Made: The CSSA will not allow any other organizations to use the fields that are assigned to CSSA by the CRPA. All leagues (teams) will continue to be governed by CSSA existing rules. Motion passed unanimously.

Softballs: Still waiting on prices for 44/375 softballs.

Home Plate Mats: Any member who has access to plate mats please contact your league director.

Evaluations: League Directors will evaluate players who tryout. Tryout players will be evaluated on hitting, fielding and throwing. Any player wishing to move to another league needs to tryout.

The board will be meeting on the 15th of February to discuss dates and times for the draft to be held. Also any other issues relating to their leagues

League Issues:Lowell Lawson League: Out of balance ability wise.Motion was made: No Gold Senior League players are eligible for the Lowell Lawson League. (no vote taken)Also a motion was made: If a player(s) has been drafted into the Gold Senior League they cannot be eligible to play in the Lowell Lawson League. If a player(s) has been drafted into the American League they will not e eligible to play in the Legacy League. (no vote was taken)

Passing of Jack Price

Our beloved, Jack Price, a player on Wednesday nights and Monday mornings, has passed away. He will be at the Woodstock Funeral Home with visitation on Sunday, February 7th and the funeral on Monday, February 8th. Below is a link to the funeral home web page for messages.

John “Jack” Price, 79, of Canton, Georgia, formally of Rockford, Illinois, passed away January 30, 2016 from Waldenstrom Macroglobulinemia Cancer surrounded by his family. Jack was born on September 28, 1936 to Lewis and Vera Layng Price in Rockford, Illinois. He grew up on the west side of Rockford, attending Lincoln Park School, graduating from West Rockford High School in 1954, where he played football and baseball.
Jack joined the Marine Corp in 1954, doing his basic training in San Diego, CA at Camp Pendleton, CA and was discharged from Twenty-Nine Palms, CA in 1958. He married his high school sweetheart, Dorrita “Doe” Shipman on August 5, 1956. Jack attended North Illinois University in DeKalb, IL. He then went to work for National Lock in customer service after college, and then started a career in 1968 with Ideal Industries, Inc in Sycamore, IL, working in sales. In 1974, the family moved to Woodstock, GA where Jack was named Southeastern Regional Sales Manager in 1982. He retired from Ideal Industries in 1999, after 31 years. He worked for Tip Top Poultry part time after retirement, traveling across the country doing food shows. He also loved being an Ambassador at the Bradshaw Farms Golf Course.
Jack had a love for people that followed him through his life and he never met a stranger. He could tell a joke at the drop of a hat. Jack loved his God and treasured his friendships. He looked forward to going back to Rockford every summer for the West End Gang Picnics with the “guys” he grew up with. He loved playing baseball and was still playing slow pitch ball at 79. He attended First Baptist Church Woodstock. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, “Doe”, sons, Mike (Cathie) Price of Woodstock, GA, Jeff (Kristian) Price of Grandview, MO, grandchildren, Videssa (Kyle) Ormbsy, of Woodstock, GA, Wendy Snyder of Woodstock, GA, Scott (Molly) Price of Atlanta, GA, Ashton Price of College Station, TX and Mallory Price of Grandview, MO, seven great-grandsons, Cole, Walker, Coker, Charley, Sam, Tommy and JD, all of Woodstock, GA, brother, Dave (Kris) Price of Rockford, IL, sisters, Rita (Chuck) Crawford of Albany, OR and Pam (Karl) Schwarz of Bend, OR, brother-in-law, Larry (Mary) Shipman of Roscoe, IL, sister-in-law, Cheryl (Dave) Wockenfuss of Tallahassee, FL and many nieces, nephews and friends across the country. Jack is preceded in death by his loving parents, Lewis and Vera Price, sister, Janet Louise Cronkite, brother, Dick Price in 2015 and oldest son, Kip Price in 2012. He was loved very much and will be missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Jack’s memory Tranquility at Kennesaw Mountain Hospice, 475 Dickson Ave, Marietta, GA 30066. A memorial service will be Monday, February 8, 2016 at 10:30am in the chapel of Woodstock Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Georgia National Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 7, 2016 from 1-4pm at the funeral home.
