Jack was born on September 28, 1936 to Lewis and Vera Layng Price in Rockford, Illinois. He grew up on the west side of Rockford, attending Lincoln Park School, graduating from West Rockford High School in 1954, where he played football and baseball.
Jack joined the Marine Corp in 1954, doing his basic training in San Diego, CA at Camp Pendleton, CA and was discharged from Twenty-Nine Palms, CA in 1958.
