As of Sunday July 20th Westchester FC still holds the top spot by defeating Puma 1-0. Second and third place remain the same as Real Cotija and San Lorenzo played to a 2-2 tie. Real Sociedad defeated Atlas 1-0 and Honduras got the 3 points from the forfeiting Metapan team. Morazán beat Juventud 1-0 and Sport Peru did in Monarcas 1-0. The next few Sundays will really be interesting. Westchester probably needs to run the table to claim the first spot at the end of the season while only 3 points separate 2nd through 6th place. The league has never been this close and this competitive. This Sunday Real Cotija and Westchester FC play at 12:00noon and Honduras and Morazán have the 1:30PM game at Pelton. San Lorenzo drew a bye and El Carmen will pick up 3 points from the Forfeiting Metapan team. The top 4 places receive a bye into the second round of the tournament and everyone wants that extra week off to rest. It’s going to be a great finish!!!!

Westchester FC who made up a double header and took 3 points on a forfeit has now bumped to the top of the Leaders Board with 19 points. Real Cotija who had a bye this past week drops to second place. Westchester FC and Real Cotija are scheduled to meet in two weeks which possibly could determine this years winner. Of course there are a few other teams who also have their sights on the top spot. Morazán got back on the winning track by easily defeating Atlas 8-1. El Carmen proved they have to be taken seriously by edging out Honduras 2-1. Real Sociedad and Sport Peru played to a tough 0-0 draw so only got 1 point added to their totals.

Point totals are really close and everyone is fighting for those top 4 positions which will receive automatic byes into the second round of the playoffs. A simple win and 3 points could mean the difference in positioning for 6 teams.

Real Sociedad became the first winner of the EDSL Tournament of Champions from the Liga De Yonkers division of the EDSL.
Real Sociedad won the game by the score of 3-2 vs. another LDY team Morazán, this is the first time that 2 teams from the same division of the EDSL faced each other in the final game.

  1. Marco Ramirez scored twice and #7 Alex Alvarez scored the other goal that gave Real Sociedad 2 the victory
Half time it was 2- 0 for the Real. Morazán came back to make it 2-1 on a goal from forward Wilbert Molina.
Morazan pressed to tie the game but where hit by a counter attack and Real score again to make it 3-1. Morazán forward Nilson Gutierez scored again toward the end of regulation time and even after over 5 minutes of extra time, Morazán could not complete their comeback.
Excellent job was done by the referee crew Ref Rafal Siudnik, AR’s Ashwanth Vijayan and Rob Miller.
Special mention has to be given to the Morazán goal keeper Cristobal Mora for keeping Morazán in the game by making sensational saves on Real Sociedad forwards.
Also a special thanks to Enrico and Cathy Romano for the excellent job done for the entire season on assigning referees to all of our games.
Real Sociedad will be now representing the EDSL at the State Sal Rapaglia Champions Cup in the 3rd week of September 2014.

This past weekend was suppose to be a “black out” weekend because of the 4th of July, but Liga de Yonkers was so many games behind we decided to play and play they did.

Real Cotija regained the top spot in the standings defeating Monarcas 5-0. Real Cotija seems like the team to beat this year. Westchester F.C. , which had the most games to make up played a double header and came away with 2 wins defeating “EDSL Tournament of Champion” winner Real Sociedad 1-0 is an extremely tough game and then Atlas 5-0. Morazán and Sport Peru battled to a 1-1 tie and El Carmen defeated San Lorenzo 2-0 in a continuation of a suspended game.

With 5 weeks left to play in the regular season the standings are just to close to call and a 3 point win can change the positions of the top teams. The next 4 teams are separated by a mere 1 or 2 points.

Metapan has forfeited out of the league. Possibly the competition was just too tough but the others are getting ready for a fast and furious finish!
