Buckeye Youth Football and Cheer Families,
The BYFA Board will kickoff the 2023 season with our next meeting Sunday, January 22nd 7:00pm at the Liverpool Community Center (6801 School St, Valley City, OH 44280). All are invited to help review our successes and areas we can improve upon to grow our programs. Field improvements, fundraising opportunities, developments in the Lake Erie Youth Football League and many other topics will be covered. All community questions, comments and concerns are welcomed.

Formal voting for 2023 board positions will be held on the 22nd. There are remaining volunteer opportunities! Non-elected areas of need are website & social media coordinator, equipment and concessions managers. Please come with questions and let us know if you can help!

Congratulations to all of our teams on yet another great season. Please see the information below to close our year.

Equipment Return:

Return dates for Padded Flag, Rookie Tackle and Varsity football players not participating in the tournament will be Tuesday, November 1st and Friday, November 4th both 6-8pm at the Liverpool Community Center (6801 School St, Valley City, 44280). Players need not be present. Items required to return: helmet, shoulder pads, game pants, practice pants, knee pads, practice jersey and belt. Keep your jerseys!

Return date for Varsity following the tournament will be* Tuesday, November 15th 6-8pm*.

There is no equipment return for grades K-2 flag football.

All Cheer teams will return uniforms on Saturday, November 5th 10am-12pm.

End of year Banquets:

BYFA will once again hold pot luck banquets at the Buckeye Elementary School cafeteria for all of our families to celebrate the season together. There will be 2 banquet dates splitting our large group up by grades. Please see the below details including food requests per team family. Dishes do not have to be extra large! BYFA will provide water and pizza. Families feel free to bring your other drinks.

Grades K, 1st and 2nd flag football and Cheer will be on Thursday, November 10th from 6-8pm.
1st/2nd flag teams please bring a main dish per family to share, K/1 flag teams please bring a side dish, Cheer teams a dessert.

All Padded Flag, Rookie Tackle and Varsity teams along with JV and Varsity Cheer will be on Thursday, November 17th from 6-8pm.
Varsity Football and Varsity Cheer please bring a main dish per family to share, Rookie Tackle and JV Cheer teams a side dish and Padded flag a dessert.

Buckeye Youth Football and Cheer Families,
Outstanding start to practices for all of our teams. Please see the below important dates and reminders to plan our season.

The annual BYFA Parents Meeting will be held this Thursday, August 11th 7:30pm at the Buckeye Youth Football fields. As the players and coaches are wrapping up practice, all K-6 parents are invited to meet between fields #1 and #2 near the equipment shed for announcements from the BYFA Board on general season information, plans and expectations. All parent questions will be taken following.

This week will be last practices held Monday thru Thursday for grades 3rd-6th football. Beginning the week of August 15th with school opening, practices will be only Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday still 6:30-8pm. No change to the K-2nd flag football Tuesday & Thursday practices. Note the Buckeye Elementary open house is scheduled for August 16th. Your team’s Head coach may alter practice that day accordingly. After Labor Day September 5th all practices move up to 6-7:30pm.

Important Season Dates – More details to come as the dates approach:
- Saturday, August 27th – First LEYFL games. The Buckeye schedule summary can be now be found on http://www.buckeyeyouthfootball.com in the Documents section. The final and official schedule shall be uploaded to the LEYFL website soon.
- Thursday, September 1st – Picture day for all football and cheer teams at the Buckeye Youth Football Fields
- Friday, September 9th – Youth Night at the Buckeye High School Varsity football game
- Thursday, September 15th – Buckeye High School Homecoming Parade – All cheer and football teams will march in the parade
- Saturday, October 8th – Save the date for the annual BYFA Reverse Raffle Fundraiser at the Medina VFW! Please see the flyer also in the Documents section of this site with ticket sales and more information to come soon!
- Saturday, October 15 – First round of LEYFL playoffs. Playoffs to conclude no later than October 29th.

Buckeye Youth Football Families,
Thank you registering your players for the Fall 2022 Youth Football season! Everyone is excited to get started! Team Head Coaches will be in contact with you soon. Please first see the general season information below.

Physical: All 3rd to 6th grade football players are required to have an active physical on file to participate in mandatory practices (see explanation below) or games. Physicals completed prior to the Fall 2021 season are no longer considered active and must be dated 11/1/2021 or later. Forms may be turned in at equipment handouts, mailed to our PO box or by the first mandatory practice. Grades K-2 Flag Football and all Cheer do not require a physical.

Grades 3-6 Equipment Handouts: Will be Wednesday July 13th 6-8:30pm and Saturday, July 16th 8-11am at the equipment room in the Liverpool Community Center (6801 School St, Valley City, OH 44280). Players are required to provide their own padded girdle compression shorts and are recommended to wear them to try on the football pants. Padded compression shirts worn under the shoulder pads are allowed but not required. Please bring a clothes basket or large bag to gather your equipment in.

Grades K-2 Equipment Handouts: Will take place at the first regular practice on August 2nd where only required mouth guards will be distributed.

Grades 3-6 Practice:
Beginning this 2022 season BYFA will follow the latest OHSAA practice schedule allowance. The first and second practices (per player) for OHSAA required acclimation will be HELMETS ONLY with shorts and cleats. The 3rd and 4th practices add shoulder pads and the 5th practice is full equipment. All 3-6 players must complete these 5 acclimation practices before participation in full contact. OHSAA non-mandatory practices will begin Monday, July 25th for an early acclimation opportunity. OHSAA mandatory practices begin Monday, August 1st. The first 3 weeks starting July 25th, practice will be M-T-W-Th 6:30-8:00pm. Once school starts the week of August 15th practices will be 3 times per week at T-W-Th 6:30-8:00pm. After Labor Day September 5th practice times will move up to 6:00-7:30pm for all grades. Please ensure players bring an individual and labeled water bottle for all practices!

Grades K-2 Practice:
Grades K-2 Flag do not follow OHSAA practice requirements as considered non-contact. There will be early Flag ‘camp’ practices July 26th and 28th 6:30-8pm. These will be great opportunities for our youngest players to condition and run drills to start the season as a collective group. Regular team Flag practices will start Tuesday, August 2nd 6:30-8:00pm and will be Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the season. Once more, after Labor Day September 5th practice times will move up to 6:00-7:30pm for all grades. Please ensure players bring an individual and labeled water bottle for all practices!

Season Details: The LEYFL season schedule is to be published by August 18th. Games will be on Saturdays this Fall at varying start times. A minimum 6 game regular season will start the weekend of August 27th. Single elimination playoffs to begin October 15th and conclude no later than October 29th.

Fall Reverse Raffle Fundraiser: BYFA is excited to host our annual Fall fundraiser gathering Saturday, October 8th at the Medina VFW Post 5137. Ticket cost of $45 per person includes dinner, drinks and your entry into the reverse raffle drawing with a grand prize of $1000! Tickets will be available at practices through the early season. Expect more event information and sponsorship opportunity announcements soon!

Registration: The Buckeye Youth Football and Cheer Fall 2022 registration period is May 1st through June 25th. In person registration is at the Liverpool Township Community Center (6801 School St, Valley City, OH 44280) Saturdays May-7, May-21, June-4 and June-18 from 9-11am and Wednesdays May-11 and June-8 from 6-8pm. Mail in registration will also be accepted during this period (BYFA, P.O. Box 570, Valley City, OH, 44280). Participants must attend an in-person date to size personalized football jerseys or optional cheer shoes new for this season! Any registration received beyond the deadline may be placed on a waiting list. ALL registrations MUST include the 2022 registration form filled in completion in the Documents section of our website, a COPY of birth certificate, wallet sized picture and copy of report card from the 2021-2022 school year. No documents were kept on record from the 2021 season.

Physical: All 3rd to 6th grade football players require an active physical on file to participate in any practice or games. K-2nd Flag Football and all K-6th Cheer do not require a physical. All physicals from the 2021 Fall season DO NOT carry over to 2022.

Season Details: (Subject to update) Practices to begin by the week of August 1st. Equipment handouts to be communicated for the week of July 11th. A minimum 7 game season will start the weekend of August 27th. Playoffs to conclude no later than October 29th.

Football Divisions: Grades K-2 Flag, 3-4 Padded Flag, 4-5 Rookie Tackle and 5-6 11v11 Varsity. 4th and 5th grade players shall select a division preference. Final assignments are based on overall participation and preferences cannot be guaranteed. See buckeyeyouthfootball.com for complete division play descriptions. Cheerleaders will be placed by grade in the respective divisions.

Payment: The fee for each football and cheer participant is shown per grade level below. Payment shall be submitted at the time of registration by cash or check. Checks shall be made out to BYFA. There is a $20.00 discount per child after the first child registered for players and cheerleaders grades 3-6. There will be no discount on grades K-2 fees. Ask about discounts for active Military service with a presented valid ID. Withdrawals from a team prior to June 25th will receive a full refund. Between June 25th and July 16th there will be a refund of 50% of the registration fee. After July 16th there will be no refunds.
