West Warwick, R.I. 12 South Weymouth, Mass. 10

In a game which took more turns than a roller-coaster ride at Six Flags of New England, West Warwick held off a jubilant nine from South Weymouth, 12-10, in seven innings to advance to the Winner's Bracket Final against New Canaan, Connecticut.

In the top of the first inning, West Warwick took an early 1-0 lead when Matt Grenier walked, stole two bases, and scored on Tyler Boisclair's single to center.

South Weymouth, however, scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the first inning.  With one out, Alex Rosario singled to left and advanced to third when Brian Urmano reached on an error.  After starting pitcher, Joe Maynard, struck out the next batter, Neal Vitello took a 1-2 change up and singled to right field scoring Rosario and Urmano for a 2-1 lead.

After a scoreless second inning, West Warwick scored two runs in the top of the third inning on two errors and back to back doubles by Ray Zincone and Matt Grenier.

South Weymouth tied the game at 3-3 when Eric Keefe reached on an error, moved to third on a double by Alex Rosario, and scored on a wild pitch.

In the top of the fourth inning, West Warwick seemingly broke the game open with six runs on two errors, three walks (Kyle Henseler, Matt Grenier, and Mike Pellerin), and four hits (Tyler Boisclair, Andrew In, Caleb Hoyle, and Joe Maynard).

West Warwick's third lead of the game, however, was quickly evaporated when South Weymouth scored six runs on four hits, four errors, and two walks to knot the game up at 9-9.

After having the first two batters retired on ground outs, South Weymouth's Mike Connelly reached first on a walk.  Chris Flipp followed with a single to left field and Matt Long disposed of a 0-2 change up to right field loading the bases for lead off batter Eric Keefe.  Keefe, then, took an 0-1 pitch and singled to left field scoring two runs.  With runners on first base and third base, South Weymouth scored three more runs when Alex Rosario singled and West Warwick made two errors on the play.  Brian Urmano tied the game up when he reached on an error and scored on a three-base error.

With momentum on the side of South Weymouth, middle reliever Tyler Boisclair came into the game to strike out a batter ending the disastrous fourth for West Warwick.

While reliever Chris Flipp prevented West Warwick from scoring in the top of the fifth inning, South Weymouth scored what was believed to be the go ahead run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Chris Flipp hit a double to left field.  The base-runner from South Weymouth, detected by the players and spectators located on the third base side of West Warwick, was ruled to miss third base keeping the game tied at 9-9.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, West Warwick brought in Matt Grenier to face the top of South Weymouth's potent order.  Grenier, struck out two and forced a fly out to center fielder Dave LaMountain to end the inning and send the game into extra innings.

In the top of the seventh inning, Kyle Henseler led off with a bloop double down the left field line and advanced to third on groundout to short by Ray Zincone.  Matt Grenier, then, took a 1-0 fastball and hit a towering double off the fence in right center to score Henseler and give West Warwick a 10-9 lead.  After Tyler Boisclair walked for the second time in the game, Trevor Lawton worked the count to 2-2 before he hit an r.b.i. double down the left field line scoring Grenier.  Boisclair scored one batter later on an error to give West Warwick a 12-9 lead.

Although South Weymouth scored one run (Shane Lynch) in the bottom of the seventh inning, Grenier induced three ground outs to end the game.

West Warwick received solid pitching from Joe Maynard, Tyler Boisclair, and Matt Grenier.  Maynard, who struck out six in 3 2/3 innings of work, allowed only three earned runs on seven scattered hits.  Boisclair, who pitched 1 1/3 innings of middle relief, struck out two and allowed only one hit.  Grenier, who struck out two batters in two innings, picked up the victory.

South Weymouth received a solid effort in relief from Chris Flipp.  Flipp, who pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowed only two earned runs on three hits.

Offensively, West Warwick received contributions from Kyle Henseler (1 for 4, one double and two runs scored), Ray Zincone (2 for 4, one double, one triple, and two runs scored), Matt Grenier (2 for 3, two doubles, four runs scored, and 2 r.b.i.'s), Tyler Boisclair (2 for 3, two runs scored and 2 r.b.i.'s), Trevor Lawton (1 for 3, one double and 2 r.b.i.'s), Mike Pellerin (bases loaded r.b.i. walk in an 11 pitch at bat), Andrew In (1 for 1, one run scored), Caleb Hoyle (1 for 2, 1 r.b.i.), and Joe Maynard (1 for 4, r.b.i double).

South Weymouth received hits from Eric Keefe (1 for 3, two runs scored and 2 r.b.i.'s), Alex Rosario (3 for 4, two runs scored), Shane Lynch (single and run scored), Neal Vitello (1 for 4, 2 r.b.i.'s), Chris Flipp (2 for 3, one run scored), and Ben Flynn (1 for 2, one run scored).
