The boys showed great improvement on Sunday. We played the top team in the flight, they won the flight last year, and we held them 0-0 in the first half with the better of play coming from our side. The first half was quality play. We kept our shape and connected passes. We closed quickly on defense and put pressure on SDFC. As the game progressed the other team manager adjusted his game plan and announced to his players that they wouldn't be playing much in the game. He was expecting an easy victory and our boys were anything but that. The second half we started a bit slower and were more tentative. The goals we let in were simple tactical mistakes, taking a ball back to the center...not marking players and leaving them open in front of our goal...and not clearing balls out of our box. We also had some great scoring opportunities we didn't convert. Three quality chances that were set-up by passes from the midfield to the forward. Both situations will continue to work their way out...we will make less mistakes in our end and will finish more goals in the opposing third. It was a very good showing by our boys!
