The 8th grade boys’ lacrosse team is looking forward to another great season ahead. The team has been working hard to fortify its fundamental skills thus far. Coach Wolfe is excited to see the amount of commitment that has already been shown from the dedicated young men on the team. Our first game will be held on Wednesday, February 22nd. We hope to see you there, and go Vikings!

This will be the inaugural season for The Village Middle School 7th grade boys’ lacrosse program. This is the fourth year of boys’ lacrosse at the middle school level. Along with Coach Guevara and Coach Chalhoub, Coach Wolfe is excited about the number of student-athletes that have joined the team as he only had seven when he founded the program four years ago. We are excited about the season ahead of us!

Wow, hard to believe the season has come to an end but what an amazing season these boys had! With the win last night, our final record is 13 wins, 2 losses, and 3 draws. We scored an incredible 50 goals only conceding 18 while providing 6 clean sheets. By far, one of the most impressive group of boys I have ever had the honor of being a part of. I look forward to seeing many of them challenge for a spot on varsity next year and growing in their careers here at Village.

I will be having an end of season cookout for the boys on Monday 2/27 after school from 4:00-5:00 on the high school patio. I will make sure all the food, drinks, and paper goods are provided. This will be a nice way to wrap up the season.

Lastly, I cannot thank you enough for all of you that have come out to the games and cheered the boys on (in some pretty crazy weather!) faithfully. It has meant more than you know to me ,and these boys, to see and hear the support in the stands from you all. Unfortunately, as a junior varsity program, there are no playoffs or official standings so the support from parents and fans means that much more. I hope to see you all next year whether your boys are on junior varsity or varsity! GO VIKINGS

Coach Chalhoub

The Varsity boys golf team competed in their first tournament of the year on Tuesday, February 21st. The boys team played the South Course at Blackhorse Golf Club in a large field with 100 other boy golfers in the field.

The Vikings graduated 3 of their Varsity players from last year’s team, including All-State golfer, Ross Brown. The Vikings return 1 Senior, Daniel P, and have had a large influx of youth into the program. This year’s team has 7 underclassmen on the roster. Coach Petito, new Head of the Golf program, is very excited to coach this group, saying “They are very eager to learn and they are extremely coachable. The great thing about coaching young guys is that we are able to mold them from a young age into the type of golfer and person that will represent the school and the direction of the program.” Coach Petito credits former Head of the program and current Assistant Coach, Doug Brotherton, saying “Coach Brotherton did a remarkable job of laying the groundwork for the identity of the program. These young guys understand the level of expectation and accountability that we hold ourselves too. They were able to watch our Seniors last year and understand the amount of work that went into their success. The success we have experienced in the past is a credit to the culture and atmosphere Coach Brotherton created for the program. Our hope is to build from that and challenge our young players to play throughout the year.”

The Vikings are back in action on Monday, February 27th as they compete in the Mayde Creek Golf Tournament at Pine Forest Country Club. Good luck to all of our Viking golfers this year. Go Vikings!

Daksha and Tanmai P. are currently Junior National Ranking players in the game of Squash in the US affiliated by US Squash Federation.( https://www.ussquash.com). Daksha’s best ranked in Girls under 17 in US was 11 whereas her best Girls under 15 ranking was 4. On the other hand Tanmai’s best ranked in Girls under 15 in US was 8 whereas her best girls under 13 ranking was 5. All of their credentials can also be seen under http://www.pathaksquash.com/ resulting in winning 65 trophies by Daksha and 20 trophies by Tanmai in various domestic or international tournaments so far. Daksha also holds the National title in India in 2011 before coming to US.

Daksha also represented the country for Elite Tournaments like Asian Juniors in Jordan and Malaysia where she competed with the best of the best in selection process to make her place in the team. She has played the world’s best tournaments like British Junior open http://www.squashsite.co.uk/bjo/ in 2012 and 2013. Ever since they moved to the U.S., both of them are playing US Open as well and have given tough competition to their opponents.

Since they moved to US, Daksha has won once a national title in 2015 held in Harvard, Boston. Even though Junior Squash is less popular in Houston, they both have worked hard to maintain their top position in the country. Daksha is also contributing in spreading awareness about the benefits of this game among the other kids of Houston by assisting her coach during the local tournaments.

Tanmai has always followed her sister’s footsteps and always enjoyed playing Squash with great enthusiasm. She too has won a lot of National Ranking Tournaments in India and in US as well. She not only has a wonderful sportsman spirit but is also blessed with a great leadership quality. Right now she is the elected President of NJHS Society in The Village School and tries her best to fulfill her responsibilities.

When other kids enjoy their summer vacations visiting their close family members, they are working whole heartedly to improve the game of Squash. The game also keeps them busy after school as it requires tremendous amount of fitness and practice on every day basis. This is not enough, they even willingly sacrifice their social life to put in the best effort to win the game.
