Volunteers are the of little league and without them, the league would not be able to function. Hedgesville Little League is made up strictly of volunteers. Our children enjoy one of the finest sports organizations around, thanks to the many people who contribute their time and talents during the season. Little League Baseball and Softball is an organization designed to build good citizens. It is a program of leadership in preparing today's youth to be tomorrow's leaders. At the local level, Little League relies on a devoted legion of adult volunteers to help ensure that the organization remains structured and runs smoothly. Hedgesville Little League is always looking for responsible and enthusiastic individuals to support and coordinate Little League events and activities. As a volunteer, you should have a keen interest in the safety, well-being, and overall development of children. We are always in need of additional help -- whether it be in the form of managing or coaching for the season, or in a one-time capacity with projects such as painting, construction, or just good old-fashioned labor. There are many ways to contribute to the success of our baseball and softball season. No amount of time you can give is too little. A majority of our parent volunteers are employed full-time, so please don't let that stop you from volunteering!

Anyone can apply to become a volunteer. Whatever talents or skills you have, we can use them! Across the country, volunteers are grandparents, siblings, aunts and uncles, retirees, community leaders, former Little Leaguers, friends, neighbors, and more. Any community member who wishes to become a volunteer may apply.

All parents of children involved in Little League are strongly encouraged to volunteer. As a parent volunteer, you have the opportunity to spend quality time with your child in a safe, fun-filled environment. Oftentimes, parent and child social lives parallel each other. Volunteering allows your life and your child's life to intersect on common ground, with shared interests and goals.

MANAGER

A manager is the primary point of contact for each team and responsible for the team's actions at games and practices. The manager must be something more than a coach. Knowledge of the game of Little League baseball is essential. While an adult with training and background in the game is a desirable candidate for manager, other qualities sometimes are more important. Managers must be sensitive to the mental and physical limitations of children. Further, they must recognize that the game is a vehicle of training and enjoyment, not an end in itself. Our program can only be as good as the quality of leadership the manager displays to his players and their parents. All managers must be approved by the Board of Directors.

COACH

Each team is allowed up to two coaches. The coaches' responsibilities are to assist the managers at games and practices. Coaches are appointed by the manager and must be approved by the Board of Directors. The coach is the right hand of the manager in training players, conducting practices and supervising games. A coach should possess all the qualities of a good manager. If the manager is not available, one of the coaches must assume the roles and responsibilities of the manager. One of two coaches must also serve as the scorekeeper during the games.

TEAM MOM OR PARENT

Each team must have one at least one Team Mom (or Dad). The Team Mom is responsible for all "off-field" team activities. These include passing information on to the parents, distributing uniforms and pictures, collecting opening day candy monies, scheduling concession duties, organizing the team party, etc.

UMPIRE

Often an overlooked aspect of the Little League program, umpiring is one of the most important. The volunteer umpire is as much a part of Little League as the volunteer manager, coach or concession stand worker. In the past, the brunt of umpiring duties has fallen on the managers and coaches, who already have very busy game and practice schedules.

HLL hopes to build up a "pool" of qualified volunteer umpires, as many other communities have, that are willing to umpire Little League games on a regular basis. HLL will provide all required training and equipment. If you are willing to umpire, whether you have experience or not, please let us know.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Board members are volunteers like everyone else in Little League. The Board of Directors is elected each year at the General Membership meeting, held the second week of September. Board members typically spend hundreds of hours preparing for and running the Little League season. If you have the time and dedication, please contact us to see if there is an open position or you can be nominated for next year's Board of Directors.

President

Apart from all other considerations, sound leadership, embeded in knowledge, experience and common sense, is the greatest requirement and most exemplary qualification of the man or woman selected as president of a Little League.
While efficient organizational and administrative abilities are desirable credentials, the search for good leadership must transcend all other attributes in the adult who gives direction to the Little League movement in the local community. Dedication to the goals and purpose of Little League is inherent in the volunteer aspect of those who serve, but not everyone who serves is gifted with the quality of leadership. Presidents must reflect these qualities if they are to be of benefit to children.
The president has many responsibilities in the administration of the league. Each President is elected by, and is accountable to, the local league board of directors. Duties of a president are described within the limits of the rules and regulations, and within the local league constitution, giving each president the ability to oversee the affairs of all elements of the league.
As the chief administrator, the president selects and appoints managers, coaches, umpires and committees. As such, no person becomes a manager, coach, umpire or committee member without the approval of the president. However, all appointments are subject to final approval by the local league’s board of directors.
Importantly, the president is the officer with whom Little League Headquarters maintains contact. The president also represents the league in the District organization.
The president should be the most informed officer of the league. Each president must know the regulations under which Little League operates and in authorizing the annual application for charter, binds all members of the league to faithfully observe the regulations. Little League Baseball International Headquarters reserves the right to require a league to remove any officer who does not carry out the terms of charter application. Serious violation can result in loss of the league’s charter by action of the Charter Committee in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Beyond the requirements of league administration, the president should personify the best public image in reflection to the community at large. Each president should take an active role in gaining support and winning friends for the league program.
The president presides at league meetings, and assumes full responsibility for the operation of the local league. The president receives all mail, supplies and other communications from the Little League Headquarters. The president must not manage, coach or umpire, unless the local league has received explicit written permission to allow this from Little League Baseball International Headquarters.

Vice President

The vice president presides in the absence of the president, works with other officers and committee members, is ex-officio member of all committees, and carries out such duties and assignments as may be delegated by the president. Separate vice presidents may also be selected to oversee individual divisions within the league. If so, one vice president should be selected as the one to preside in the absence of the president. A vice president may manage, coach or umpire, provided they do not serve on the protest committee.

Secretary

The secretary maintains a register of members and directors, records the minutes of meetings, is responsible for sending out notice of meetings, issues membership cards and maintains a record of league’s activities.

Treasurer

The treasurer signs checks co-signed by another officer or director (or as directed by the local league’s constitution), dispenses league funds as approved by the board of directors, reports on the status of league funds, keeps local league books and financial records, prepares budgets, and assumes the responsibility for all local league finances.

Player Agent

The player agent conducts annual tryouts, is in charge of player selection, assists the president in checking birth records and eligibility of players and generally supervises and coordinates the transfer of players to or from the Minor Leagues according to provisions of the regulations of Little League Baseball. Separate player agents may also be selected to oversee individual divisions within the league. The player agent must not manage, coach or umpire in the division over which he/she has authority, unless the local league has received explicit written permission to allow this from Little League Baseball International Headquarters.

Safety Officer

The safety officer coordinates all safety activities including supervision of ASAP (A Safety Awareness Program), ensures safety in player training, ensures safe playing conditions, coordinates reporting and prevention of injuries, solicits suggestions for making conditions safer, and reports suggestions to Little League Headquarters through the ASAP system.

Information Officer

The information officer manages the league’s official home page on eteamz.com, and ensures that league rosters are maintained on the site, assigns administrative rights to league volunteers and teams, ensures that league news and scores are updated on a regular basis, collects, posts and distributes important information on League activities including direct dissemination of fund-raising and sponsor activities to Little League Baseball, district, public, league members and media, serves as primary contact person for Little League and eteamz.com regarding optimizing use of the Internet for league administration and for distributing information to league members and to Little League Baseball, and displays enthusiasm for using the Internet for league administration, for sharing information and for creating a more enjoyable and efficient Little League experience.

Equipment Manager

The equipment manager obtains quotes and places orders for all of our leagues equipment. Maintains equipment inventory records; distributes and collects equipment to and from team managers as well as keeping records of all equipment. Works with Safety Officer in maintaining equipment in safe working order. Oversees financial and budget information for equipment.

Head Concession Stand Chairperson

The concession stand chairperson oversees all functions of concessions including ordering, preparing and pricing of food. Maintains concessions in accordance with local requirements for safe food handling, preparing, and storing practices. Oversees committee of concession volunteers; oversees finances/budget and maintains financial records of concessions. Maintains records with regard to food receipts and inventories as well as other records necessary for concessions.

Assistant Concession Stand Chairpersons

The assistant concession stand chairpersons assists the head chairperson in all areas of the concession stand.

Chief Umpire

The chief umpire schedules and oversees umpires. Conducts training sessions on rules and regulations. Reports “no shows” to Division VP's. Provides general guidance regarding rules. Seeks clarifications from Little League Headquarters when necessary.

Head of Grounds/Maintenance Chairperson

The head grounds chairperson maintains the HLL complex and equipment. Organizes work days. Orders maintenance supplies; keeps records of all financial transactions.

Assistant Grounds/Maintenance Chairpersons

The assistant grounds chairpersons assists the head grounds chairperson in all areas of the complex and equipment.

Fundraising Chairperson

The fundraising chairperson oversees the leagues fundraising activities.

Division Vice-Presidents

The division VP's oversees all functons of the division they are in charge of. The league has one VP for each division. The divisions are T-Ball, Rookie, Minor, Major, Junior, Senior, and Big.
