Heartwell of Lakewood, California won the 2003 Pony League World Series in Washington, Pennsylvania. Nick Evans held the big bats of Humacao to five hits in a complete game win, 4-3. A three run third inning was the margin of difference for Lakewood. In the completion of game 13 prior to the championship game, Christian Saez had two home runs and record-tying seven RBI as Humacao blasted New York, 13-2 to advance to the championship game against Lakewood, California. Saez also tied the record of 12 RBI in a series. Lakewood's Kyle Christensen won the ERA title, while New York's Jean Carlos Rodriguez won the batting championship. Humacao stays alive! The Puerto Rico team forced another game against New York by winning Thursday, 13-11. The winner of the Friday night rematch will go to the Saturday championship game. Frank Molina of Humacao hit a pair of home runs, giving him a record-tying five in the series. New York's Jean Carlos Rodriguez also hit a pair, tying the record as well. Rodriguez tied the World Series record for consecutive hits with 9 (over two games), and has also tied the record for seven RBI in a game and 12 RBI in a series. Heartwell of Lakewood, CA, earned a place in the 2003 championship game by defeating Kyle Chapman of Houston, TX, 10-9 in 9 innings. Pat Colwell drove in the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth. Houston scored five times in the top of the 7th to force extra innings.
