Plan for practices

Posted by Chris Wright at Feb 20, 2018 10:02AM PST ( 0 Comments )

hey Robins Parents,

So after seeing the girls in action last Friday, I was pleasantly surprised that most had a pretty good idea of what they are doing! Since our first game is in two weeks, the plan for practice will be to set up the field and rotate them between offense and defense. It looks like we mainly need to get those that haven’t played up to speed on actual game play; bases, positions, batting, where to throw, etc.

Anything you can do to educate to this end before then would be great. Pull up pictures online and explain the field, watch a game on Youtube, set up a mini field in the driveway. The more prepared they are, the more we can put them into game play situations at practice.

Thanks!
Chris

Update from the Parents Meeting

Posted by Chris Wright at Feb 20, 2018 9:55AM PST ( 1 Comment )

Hi Robins Parents,

Hope you had a good weekend. I have a few updates and info from the Parents Meeting that was Saturday.

First, we confirmed the equipment that our girls will need:

  • a ASA or USA Softball approved Softball bat (T-ball and USSSA bats can not be used)
  • Batting helmet with NOSCE approved facemask
  • Softball glove (11"-13" are the common sizes)
  • Rubber Cleats (metal not allowed below 14U)
  • matching socks – we were told this is a big deal but not required…we can talk about it at Friday’s practice as the parents that were there on Saturday have a few ideas for this.

Next, we still need volunteers. All volunteers, Coaches, Assist Coaches, Team Parent all need to have an application submitted with the CDC Concussion certificate. The CDC HeadStart certificate is a pretty simple online course that takes about 30 minutes to complete. Here is the link:
https://www.cdc.gov/headsup/youthsports/training/index.html
Link to the Volunteer app: http://www.teampages.com/organizations/3193/documents/178067

USA Softball expects about 5 volunteers per team, right now we have 0 cleared volunteers. Unfortunately, per the league, after today anyone that is not a cleared volunteer can not be on the fields for practice or games. I’ll do everything I can to make sure the girls have a good time but it will be rough doing it solo!
We are one of the only teams without parent volunteers!

Last bit, we do need a sponsor or a couple to cover the $500 in sponsorships. Per league rules, if we don’t come up with a sponsor, the parents are responsible for covering the donation. There are 12 girls on the team so that works out to $42 each if the consensus is to simply pony up as a group. It would be nice to have the girls see a local business support them though.

Comments, concerns, etc? Please respond!
Thanks, see you on Friday,
Chris
