Weekly Goaltending and Shooting Clinics

Posted by Spokane Youth Hockey at Dec 11, 2017 12:17PM PST
image

Every week, Spokane Youth Hockey offers a Rep Division Goaltending Clinic on Wednesday nights from 6:45-7:45 PM on Rink 2. While this clinic is primarily designed for our Rep Division goaltenders, it is also a great opportunity for our skaters to get an extra hour of ice, have fun with their friends and work on SHOOTING TO SCORE!

These sessions are FREE for goaltenders – all Rep Division goaltenders are expected to attend. For shooters, each session will run the players through a number of “shooter vs. goalie” situations with an emphasis on positive repetitions. Instructors will include our Hockey Director, Neil Runbeck, and our Director of Goaltending Development, Kyle Knudsen. Session cost for shooters is $10.00 and pre-registration is required so coaches can plan the sessions.

To view the session in action, please click the link to this video.

To register for one or more sessions, please click this link.

Come join the FUN and learn how to shoot to score! See you on the ice!

(*Please bear with me as I learn the limitations of Team Pages. I have heard that many of you did not see the attachment that was sent in my email yesterday. I am going to post the entire message here and also add as an attachment to this thread so that you can see the accompanying photos.)

Welcome to the Team! After meeting with our coaching team, I am extremely excited for what this season will bring for our players. We are very fortunate to not only have an awesome group of players but also an awesome group of parents! As you all know, or will learn, rep hockey requires a whole different level of dedication and commitment from each and every one of us, players and parents.
This email is going to contain a lot of information so please review carefully and most certainly let me know if you have any questions at all.

- Firstly, our primary form of communication will come through Team Pages, this is the case for Spokane Youth Hockey and for all teams. If you have not yet put the Team Pages app on your phone, I would suggest that you do so right away. Everyone receiving this email should have received an invitation to join our team on Team Pages. If a parent has not received this, they call still create an account and search for our team, 10U-A2 Team (Navy). If other family members or friends want to be able to view our schedules and keep track of our team, they can also sign-up as “Fans”. Just go to teampages.com and click the “sign-up” link in the upper right corner. Choose “I am trying to find my team on TeamPages” and enter your information to create a free account. Once your account is created, please make sure that you have all of your contact information entered including your telephone number so that text alerts can be sent when needed. You should also add our team calendar to your phone. This is how:
1. Log In
2. Navigate to the “person” icon in the upper right-hand corner:
3. Click CALENDAR.
4. Navigate over to the right and click SUBSCRIBE.
5. This will take you to a screen where users can click their platform and follow online instructions to have the team’s calendar added directly to their personal calendar – VERY helpful for busy families!

- I have loaded each player into the roster with the jersey number that they requested. Please be aware however, that if your player is a 2007 and has an even number or is a 2008 and has an odd number, they could potentially be required to change that number next year if it conflicts with other players in the same age group. Please let me know ASAP if you would like to change their number.

- Jerseys – Our team will need to have a white jersey for home and a navy jersey for away. You are responsible for ordering your players jerseys. If you player was part of the Mite Academy last year, their navy jersey is the same navy jersey we are using. If it still fits and is in good condition, you only have to order your white. Otherwise, you will need to order both. These are ordered through Game Gear https://www.gamegear.com/collections/spokane-junior-chiefs (also posted on our website under “Jr. Chiefs Merchandise”). SAYHA will provide one pair of game socks but players are encouraged to purchase an extra set. Please make sure that you are ordering the correct size for jerseys and socks as the website lists both youth and adult options. Below is the style of socks that should be ordered. Please get your order placed ASAP so that we can be sure to have jerseys for our first tournament. SAYHA will be providing practice jerseys.

Warm-ups can be purchased at Play It Again Sports – Jared has them in stock. If you plan to buy a new helmet for your player this season, it is suggested that you buy red. As the players get older, the red will be required for all players. It is not however necessary for you to change if you have a different color and were not planning on purchasing a new one. Jared also has these in stock and offers a variety of options. After doing a significant amount of research on helmets, many of our players have chosen to go with the Bauer RE-AKT 75 (pictured below). This is just a suggestion if you are considering making a helmet purchase.

- Tournaments: We are planning to play in the following tournaments. Once our registration is complete, I will add these to Team Pages but I wanted to give everyone a heads up so that you can begin planning and arranging your schedules. We are working on blocking rooms for each of these as well and I will share that information as soon as I have it for you.

  • Winfield, BC – Oct. 6-8 CONFIRMED
    o Penticton, BC – October 20-22
    o Missoula, MT – November 17-19
o Spokane, WA (our home tournament) – December 8-10
    o Osoyoos, BC – January 5-7
    o Kelowna, BC – January 26-28

- League games – I will post this schedule as soon as I have it.

- Player Volunteering – We are working on some awesome says for our players to volunteer to help the community while earning some money for our team. More details to come on this.

- Parent Volunteers – thank you to everyone that has reached out to help out. I will be reaching out to you each individually as needed for help in different areas. Once I have our schedule, I will also be putting together a parent volunteer schedule to match up with scorekeeper and clock volunteers so that we are sure to have these areas taken care of.

- Jared Fields (owner of Play It Again Sports), has generously offered to do free skate sharpening for our players this season! You will just need to take your players skates by the shop and he will take care of them for you! Thank you Jared!

- Finally, we are still in need of sponsorships. Please review the sponsorship information and reach out to any prospective sponsors. We can use all the help we can get! I have attached a sponsorship request letter to this email that you can use.

Ok, I am sure that I missed a few things but this should be a good amount of information to absorb at this point. Again, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions that you have!

Thank you,

Miranda Latscha
