We hosted our sixth annual in-house mixed age group U9-U15 Winter Futsal tournament on March 9 (boys) and March 16 (girls). This year’s theme was Passion 4 Possession with a focus on growing passion, developing skill, and building character. The days were filled with smiles, skill, sportsmanship, and lots of close games. For the first time this year we awarded a special Passion 4 Possession trophy to one individual player from each age group who showed the most passion, skill, and character with the ball at their feet. Great job players! Thanks to all of our families and volunteers for participating and to Ridgewood Baptist Church for allowing us to use their space!

U13 Boys Red advanced to Presidents Cup Regional Tournament

Coach’s Report: submitted by Brian Schmidt

note: The team qualified for the Presidents Cup Regional with a 3-2 victory over Lakeshore United U13 Navy in the final of the Wisconsin State Presidents Cup in May.

The U13 Boys Red team competed in the Presidents Cup Regionals June 15th to June 19th in Overland Park, Kansas. The elite competition was made up of the 13 state champions from the midwest region. It was very hot with temperatures between 94 and 97 degrees each day with high humidity. Difficult conditions to acclimate to and play soccer in. The turf fields added about 10 degrees on the playing field. The team was placed in a challenging pool and lost three games by scores of 7-3 to Shadow Premier FC from Illinois, 2-0 to Columbus East FC from southern Ohio, and 5-0 to Elkhart Flames SC from Indiana. Both Columbus East and Elkhart Flames made the semi-finals, and would be premier level teams in the state of Wisconsin, a few steps above where the U13s are now. Columbus East made it to the final before falling 3-1 to VSA Premier from Iowa. Elkhart Flames had the top goalscorer of any age group through group play. The team performed well and fought hard. It was a great end to a fantastic season.

Presidents Cup Regionals is an outstanding tournament. Well run, great referees, great competition. The parents and players all had a blast and were able to experience a special event. I would encourage any team that has the opportunity to attend. It was a good experience to see the caliber of opponent at a regional event. Wisconsin did not have a team advance to the semi-finals at any age group, and the seven teams representing our state had an overall record of 4 wins, 13 losses, and 4 draws.

Presidents Cup Overview
The Wisconsin Presidents Cup was the first round en route to a National Title. Winners at the state level compete in the Regional Presidents Cup and Regional Winners move on to the National Presidents Cup. The Presidents Cup is a soccer tournament designed to provide teams that do not participate in the US Youth Soccer National Championships Series, the US Youth Soccer National League or the Midwest Regional League the opportunity to participate in a series of events that lead to the National Presidents Cup Championship. Teams losing WYSA State Championship play-in games will be eligible to enter the competition.

US Youth Soccer Region II Presidents Cup – U13 Boys off to Kansas

The U13 Boys Red, coached by Brian Schmidt, team will play in Presidents Cup Regionals June 15-19 in Overland Park (Kansas City), Kansas.  Wisconsin competes in Region II comprised of 13 states. The team will play Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio South in group play, although specific teams from those states are not yet known.  The games will be played at the all turf Scheel’s Overland Park complex.  There are 12 teams competing in the U13 boys division and 114 teams in total competing in the tournament. Winners of the event at each age qualify for National Presidents Cup next month in Auburndale, Florida.

This is a great opportunity for the team to test its skill and development against the champions from other states.  The competition will be excellent.  The team qualified with a 3-2 victory over Lakeshore United U13 Navy in the final of the Wisconsin State Presidents Cup in May.  The tournament events will determine the regional qualifiers that will compete in the US Youth National Presidents Cup. Winners in the U13-U17 boys and girls groups will vie for the national title. It’s fantastic for PS United to have a State Champion and the boys are excited for the opportunity and experience the regional event will provide.

13th Annual Mix ‘N Match Tournament Recap

PSU’s 13th Annual in-house Mix ‘N Match tournament is randomly mixed teams of all U9-U12 Rec & Academy players in separate boys & girls’ divisions. There were championship matches with awards, concessions, ice cream, cleat exchange and spirit wear for sale.  Despite a weather delay, causing many games to be played in the rain, we were able to stick to the schedule for the most part and enjoy the sun and heat of the afternoon. Lots of good soccer action!! Great job to all the players for some exciting games of soccer.

Championship Winners
Girls: Mexico won in overtime 3-2 vs Argentina
Boys: Sweden won 5-1 vs Colombia

Thank you to all the volunteers for making the 13th annual PSU Mix N Match a success!  A special thank you to Susan Muller and TM Photography for all your hard work with concessions.
