U17B Red, coached by Tony Pierce, went 2-0-1 to finish at the top of their division at the Rockford Raptors College Showcase April 1-2, 2017.

The first game was played early Saturday on a semi-soft field with ice and mud. We played the Carey Defenders 00, it was our first game as a team and it took a while to get things organized. We ended up winning the game 4-3. The second game was against Team Chicago 2000 Elite. They took the game to us in the first 15 minutes, but we weathered the storm and scored in the 17th minute. We found our stride and scored again before half time. The second half both teams found the net, resulting in a 3-1 victory. The third and final game was on Sunday against the Raiders of Bolingbrook SC. They held the ball well and made it difficult for us to gain possession. Once we did, we made it count and scored half way through the first half. The second half the wind was a factor as well as poor field conditions, we had a defensive breakdown that lead to the tying goal. We had many chances at the end to win the game, but we could not find the back of the net. The match ended in a draw 1-1.

John Valla and Alex Polzer both with 2 goals, Ryan Madsen, Justin Beli, and Zach Wilcox each had one goal. It was a very good showing for our first time out, and I am really looking forward to the rest of the season.

Pre-Season Tournament Championships

The U13 and U19 boys red teams each took 1st place at the Madison 56ers Spring Cup on April 1st and 2nd. Both teams are coached by Brian Schmidt. The tournament took place at the all-turf Woodside Sports Complex in Wisconsin Dells.

The U13 boys won their group games by scores of 2-1 over Strike FC Blue and 3-1 over Tosa Blue. The team was dominant in the final beating Madison 56ers White by the score of 5-2. Keaton Peters, Harsha Gaddipati, and Ryan Pfeifer all scored in the final. “Our shape was very good all weekend and we played some really good soccer. We controlled the final game from beginning to end against a team that plays in a higher division than we do for league,” said Coach Schmidt.

The U19 boys were in a five team bracket and won the tournament based on goal differential. “We turned over about half the roster from last year, so this was truly a weekend to get to know each other and see what we could do.” The team lost the first game 0-1 to Strike FC and followed that up with a strong 6-0 victory over SC Waukesha Gold. “We knew we needed a result (in the next game) against Elm Grove after dropping our first game. Our midfield shape wasn’t very good in the 4-3-3, so we switched to 4-2-3-1 and played much better. Scored on a penalty kick midway through the 2nd half and it held up,” Schmidt said. After the 1-0 victory over Elm Grove the team needed to win their final game against Milwaukee Kickers Academy Red by two goals or more to take the title. After going behind early in the game the team scored 4 unanswered goals for a 4-1 victory.
