Saturday Meet, etc

Posted by Admin at Sep 9, 2014 5:39AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

As it stands right now- we will have two buses for the Coaches Classic Saturday.
All athletes will ride the buses to the meet.We will depart from the school at 7 AM.The buses will be boarded in the parking lot behind the new Arena(near the field house end of the football field). Those riding the bus home will call their parents to let them know our school arrival time.We will stop to eat on the way back.

This is an exciting meet with between 80-100 teams competing. Both boys and girls varsity will run the International Race. This is the elite team division.

The schedule of events is:

8:30 JV Girls
9:10 Girls International
9:40 Girls Championship
10:20 Boys International
10: 45 Boys Championship
11:15 Boys grades 7-9
11:50 Boys JV grades 10-12
12:30 Awards

The sign out procedure for athletes riding home with their parents is different for this event due to the length of the event. There will be no team meeting and you can sign and go with your athlete after their race if you so desire. We realize that it is a long day and family plans could be compromised with the event ending around 1:15.

We still need some volunteers to help monitor the course tomorrow. Please let me know if you are willing to help in that area.

The coaches first Cross Country poll was released yesterday. The girls were ranked 3rd in AAA and sixth in the overall poll regardless of classification. The boys were ranked 2nd in the AAA poll but unranked in the overall poll.

County Meet

Posted by Admin at Sep 7, 2014 1:40PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Glad we were able to get the meet in yesterday. Thank you all for pitching in to help in Coach Hines absence. Special thanks to Susan Thomas for doing a great job on the sign out sheet and to the three seniors – Evan,Jared, and Mason who jumped in to help in every aspect from loading and unloading the bus, distributing race bibs, directing teammates- Awesome job!

Our next meet is a home meet. I would appreciate it if those who helped last home meet would take their same posts for the Sept 10 meet.Any newbbes can jump in the help as well.

The athletes requested that we have someone calling out the mile and two mile splits at the home meets and this is something I think is very important. If we can get a volunteer to start a stopwatch and run/ bike to the splits it would be great. The splirts are 20 yds apart so it will be easy to walk between them to supply the splits. Let me know if you’re interested. Both splits are near the CCP main building.

Please do not leave the meet after signing out your athlete without talking with me first. We want to develop a team concept and two things are important- support athletes who earn honors at the meet and meet as a group for final comments at the end of the meet. If there is a valid reason that you have to leave early please talk with me .

Lastly please read the emails carefully- I’ll try to have starting times procedures etc as clearly spelled out as possible. Things are always fluid so changes occur during the season- for instance yesterday we all waited at the old gym for bus pickup- the site has been the same for 34 years. After the bus wasn’t there at 4 PM I called the AD and he informed me the bus pick up and drop off is in the lower parking lot near the field house. So in the future we will leave and return to the parking lot next to the field house at the opposite end of the campus.

Congratulations to the girls cross country team finishing 2nd in the Lexington County Meet tonight. The All County runners included Catherine O’Leary with a 12th place finish, Ashley Golbus finishing 3rd and Alexa Golbus finishing 2nd overall. It was a great effort by all the athletes!

Labor Day practice will be at 6 PM at the high school track for interval qualifiers only.

Be aware that there will be no practice next Friday. Coach Hines and I will be enroute to Wis for his daughters wedding.Athletes are expected to run on their own.

Since Coach Hines must leave early next week he will not be at our County Meet. Susan Thomas has agreed to help me by taking care of the sign out of athletes who are riding home with their parents. Parents must sign out- athletes cannot. You can find Susan as soon as you get to the meet and sign out your athlete.

The 21 bus riders include the varsity girls and boys and:

Those who do not ride the bus can be transported to the meet by their parents and will run the race.

The time for the races are: 5:30 Varsity boys, 6:00 Varsity Girls, 6:40 all jvs.

The race starts and finishes in the football stadium at Lexington High School. We have been instructed to park at the Technology Center next to the High school.

We will set up an area under the bleachers for our snacks and water as well as a central place for the team to meet.

There will be a short team meeting at the end of the jv race. Then all athletes will sit together during the awards presentation where All County runners and County Champs will be named. There will also be individual awards for jv runners. Immediately at the end of the awards we will pack our gear on the bus and head to Chapin. We should be back at the high school around 8:30. Please try to be on time to pick up your athlete since I will be there until the last one is safely traveling home.

We will leave from Chapin High School at 4 PM. CMS and Spring Hill athletes must transport themselves to the high school. We will meet in the upper parking lot near the old gym. We leave promptly at 4.

CMS and Spring Hill athletes will get early dismissals- 3:15. CMS parents must send a note to CMS for early dismissal and I will send names to attendance there. The AD will notify Spring Hill.

CHS students will be dismissed at 3:25. I will notify attendance at CHS, be sure to let your teacher know ahead of time to avoid any delays. I will be sending out a mass email to teachers as well.

Again please read carefully- The Process Is the Goal.
