Girls and Boys basketball both had clear victories over Rival Mid-Carolina on Friday, December 11th. On the road the previous week the Lady Eagles had another sound victory while the boys lost in a close one. Both teams are getting their seasons rolling heading into the Winter Break as they prepare for Region play.

Chapin Wrestlers Fight Hard to Finish Fourth
in Silver Fox Invitational

On December 11-12, the Chapin Eagles, lead by First Place finishers Taylor Cabe and Hank Manos, wrestled tenaciously in a field of 17 teams to finish fourth, even though the Eagles did not compete in one weight class. Chapin finished with a record of 32 wins and 22 losses in the two-day event.

The finals provided some of the most exciting and intense bouts of the day. With 10 seconds remaining, Taylor Cabe, trailing 3 to 2, delivered a victory with a lightning-quick take down and 3 near-fall points to leave the mat with a 7-3 victory that brought the Chapin faithful to their feet. Hank Manos closed the tournament’s competition with a dominating 4-0 victory.

In addition to the 2 First Place finishes, other individual accomplishments included 2 Second Place and 1 Third Place finishes.

The Eagles resume team competition on Tuesday, December 15 with a 4-team match at Brookland-Cayce High School.

Palmetto State Challenge

On December 4-5, the Eagles completed the first step in the long journey of the goal to bring a State Championship to Chapin. Of the 14 teams competing, the Eagles finished second behind Hilton Head and 32 points ahead of Summerville. Tournament runner-up honors were earned even though Chapin did not compete in two weight classes. In a great team effort, every wrestler from Chapin recorded at least one victory, for an overall record of 51 wins and 18 defeats. One of the most exciting bouts of the entire tournament featured Sophomore Cole Hodges’ gritty 5 to 3 victory in double overtime.

Individual accomplishments included 4 First Place, 2 Second Place, 1 Third Place, and 2 Fourth Place finishes.

Chapin takes on Union County Friday night in Round 3 of the Upper State Playoffs.
Game time is 7:30 and tickets are $7.
