Senior Night Tomorrow! Let's Pack the Stands!

Posted by Jay Hertzler at May 11, 2016 9:02AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Lady Titan Players and Parents,
First, what an exciting night last night for this program. Both the JV and Varsity teams played extremely well, and I hope each of you is as proud of the girls on this team as the coaching staff is. As everyone knows, the next couple of days are going to be a very exciting time. For those who have been around this program for a while, it wasn’t long ago where we could not even fathom the possibility of being in the playoffs in this league. Our team would get destroyed by the likes of Sion, St. Teresa’s and Blue Valley every season, so it seemed as if we were playing for a possibility of 4th place every season. This year, things are very different. Now, we are in a solid 2nd place with our win vs Shawnee Mission last night, and we play STA tomorrow for 1st place in the league, and the #1 seed in the post-season tournament.
Second, I just wanted to touch base with the Lady Titan parents to remind everyone of proper fan etiquette while watching the games. I was pulled aside last night after the game and was made aware of how the LSW parents were “less then composed” and were even calling opposing players out by number and yelling at them directly. As you may, or may not know, the reputation of the program means a great deal to me, and I want to make sure we as coaches, players and parents represent the school and this program as best we can. The players have done very well in this category, and based on the league stats, we have the lowest (or close to the lowest) number of penalty minutes in the league….meaning we play, we win, and we do it clean. As fans in the stands, please make sure you follow the player’s lead and cheer on OUR girls to play well, and don’t worry about what the other team’s players are doing…that’s my job (as indicated by my yellow card last night for mentioning something to the ref about an opposing player).
Third, I just wanted to thank each and every parent for your trust and faith in this coaching staff. As was evident by the smiling faces I saw from players and parents last night, this team is happy and proud with how we are doing this season as a team. This coaching staff is making every effort to get this team to where the girls unanimously stated they wanted to go, which was into the Championship game. This means reviewing scouting reports, watching game film, reviewing stats from the other teams, determining the best matchups on the field against opposing players, etc…When it comes to the games vs the top teams and into the playoffs, that means the coaching staff will be making decisions that may not please everyone. Please know we are aware of this, and if anyone has an issue or concern, please feel free to have the player reach out to her position coach to discuss.
That’s all I had…please pack the stands for tomorrow night. It’s Senior Night, and it’s a big game for 1st place. Can’t ask for a bigger night than that! Go Lady Titans!

OK Players and Parents.

I wanted to give you some important information on what happened today.

First – the game at LSW vs Shawnee Mission was cancelled due to wet field conditions and the potential for more rain to come in this afternoon. We then scheduled a quick 1-hr practice at Lakeland as we still need to prepare for games.

Second – I worked with the Shawnee Mission coach to reschedule the game. As the playoffs start this Friday night, it was important we get these last 2 games in by Thursday. I volunteered to play at Shawnee Mission South HS as they have a turf field, and based on the forecast, I did not want to chance another LSW stadium cancellation due to wet fields. Now, for the game tomorrow night, there are later start times, and we have to make sure we park and enter the stadium from the WEST side of the stadium. The address to the school is:

Shawnee Mission South HS.
5800 W 107th St, Overland Park, KS 66207

So, take I-435W, exit Nall, turn right. At the first stoplight after turning onto Nall, turn left at 107th St, SMSHS will be on your right. Drive past the large parking lot, and turn right into the West side of the football stadium into the smaller parking lot. You should see tennis courts when you make that turn. We will not have access into the stadium (for players or parents) until 6pm. That will only give the JV team 30 mins to get on the field and warm up.

Hope that helps. Senior Night is now this Thursday when we play vs St. Teresa’s Academy.

Opportunities available at all levels. Please let all of your girls know and good luck with the rest of your season.

Great news! because of the efforts of Blue Lion Lacrosse and specifically Mary Orndoff, St. James Academy is planning to start a girls team next season. It will be great to add another team to the girls side.

2nd Annual Girl's LAX Alumni Game

Posted by Jay Hertzler at May 3, 2016 7:13AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Hello Lady Titans LAX Family,

I just wanted to send a note out about our 2nd Annual Girl’s LAX Alumni Game. We have it scheduled for 21 MAY at 6pm at the stadium. This is an opportunity for underclassmen from this year’s team to play against players who have graduated from LSW.

I have already invited as many alumni as possible. Last year, the high school team beat the alumni pretty badly, but this year there is an infusion of newly graduated seniors that should help level the playing field.

This is supposed to be a fun, relaxed environment where the alumni can play lacrosse again, and be back around the lax family. I hope everyone can make it. I know there’s grad parties being planned…I hope this game does not conflict with any. It should only last an hour.
