What a Season!

Posted by Jay Hertzler at May 25, 2016 6:53AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Lady Titan LAX Family,

After last night’s championship, all I can say is “What a season!” When I think back on what we have accomplished as a club over the last few months, it is impossible for me to say one bad thing about how the players, coaches, parents and the LSW Board performed this season. Here’s a quick recap:

JV Team:
KC METRO CHAMPIONS!
Beat undefeated Park Lacrosse 6-5 to win the championship.
Lost only 2 regular season games by a total of 3 goals (Sion 5-6, Park 4-6).
Played in, and won, first championship game in LSW Club history.

Varsity Team
3rd place in regular season (only by Tie-breaker).
2nd highest scoring offense in regular season with 117 goals
2nd best team defense in regular season with 61 goals against
Lost 2 regular season games by a total of 3 goals (Sion 10-11, STA 8-10)
Lost in overtime in first playoff game in program history (We’ll finish the job next season, for sure)
3 All-Metro players (Kristen Cox – Attack, Syd Malcolm – Mid, Anna Kouba – Def)
1 All-Metro Honorable Mention (Katelynn Oren – GK)

I want to personally thank the coaching staff for their passion and dedication to the girls and to the success of the club. I am truly blessed to have these 4 on the sidelines with me, and I hope it’s something we can do together for years to come.
I also want to thank all of the parents for your support throughout the season. Hearing all of you in the stands during games brings a great deal of joy to us. Thanks for being the best parents in the league. Get ready to cheer even harder next season.
Last but not least, I want to thank Dean Rasdall and the LSW LAX Board for their support. The board never hesitates in finding ways to help the coaching staff with whatever we need to coach the girls. And Dean did a wonderful job all year managing the relationship with the school.

So, what’s next? I would like to recommend that the players do something lax-related between now and indoor sessions in September. Whether it’s conditioning, stick skills, joining Midwestern Force or Blue Lions, recruiting…anything is fine. Just know that we will not sneak up on anyone next season…the league knows we will show up, and we’ll show up strong and hungry for a championship. Our goal for both the JV and Varsity will be to play (and win) BOTH championship games next May…and it is totally within our reach to do so…without a doubt. I welcome the challenge and can’t wait!

Have a wonderful summer. Thank you to everyone for allowing me to coach your daughters.

Yours Truly,
Coach Jay.

Where Do We Go From Here?

Posted by Jay Hertzler at May 16, 2016 11:42AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Lady Titan Family,

That’s the question I have asked myself more than once since our heartbreaking loss last Friday night. I have asked myself what I could have done differently during that game, what i could have said during the game, etc. First, let me say again how proud I am of this program, and how hard our girls fought all the way to the end. One good thing is, we still have one game to play on the 24th. That being said, here’s what’s coming up over the next week and a half:

- Monday 16 MAY – Indoor practice at 5 for JV. Optional for Varsity players.
- Tuesday 17 MAY – Graduation night (CONGRATS, SENIORS!)
- Wednesday 18 MAY – End of Season Banquet in the LSW PAC. Please make sure that all outfits are in good taste for the banquet.
- Thursday 19 MAY – JV Practice. Optional for Varsity players. Boy’s varsity lax has a home playoff game as well. We should consider attending the game to support them. Also, as the 2nd seed of the JV division, we are responsible to supply 2 volunteers to work the gate at the varisty tournament at Rockhurst University from 7pm – 9pm. If you can volunteer, please let me know.
- Friday 20 MAY – Night off
- Saturday 21 MAY – 2nd Annual Alumni Game at the LSW Stadium. It should be a fun night!

So, what’s the answer to the question in the title? That’s easy, we get ready to win it all for next season!

That’s all for this week!

Playoff Time is Here!

Posted by Jay Hertzler at May 13, 2016 6:51AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Happy Friday Lady Titan Family.

What a great time to be a part of the Lady Titan LAX program.

First, the JV team beats STA to earn a chance to play for the JV championship on 24 MAY at 5:30pm at Rockhurst University.

Second, the Varsity team leaves it all on the field last night against STA, and falls a couple of goals short..all that game did for us last night is place us in 3rd place for the regular season, and put us in a Quarter-final game tonight at 7:30pm at Rockhurst University (Bourke Field (turf), 1100 Rockhurst Road, Kansas City, MO 64110) vs Blue Valley, which is a team we beat by 10 goals during the regular season.

We have a busy couple of weeks coming up, so let me lay it all out in front of you so everyone can plan accordingly.
Friday 13 MAY: Varsity plays Blue Valley in the Quarterfinal Playoff game at 7:30pm at Rockhurst University. – There will be a $5 gate charge for adults. High schoolers and younger will be allowed in for free.
- I would like the Varsity team on-site and ready by no-later-than 6:45pm. Wear white jerseys. JV team be on-site to cheer on your teammates.
- There will be tournament t-shirts for sale for $20 if you are interested.

Monday 16 MAY – Practice
Tuesday 17 MAY – Practice
Wednesday 18 MAY – End of season Banquet in the LSW PAC.
Thursday 19 MAY – Once we beat Blue Valley tonight, we will be playing Sion in the Semi-Finals at 5:30pm at Rockhurst Univ. You can bet I want a rematch with that team! $5 gate fee still applies for adults.
- Because we are the #2 seed for the JV tournament, we are responsible for supplying at least 2 people to work the admissions gate between 7-9pm. Possible workers include team captains, players, managers, parents, coaches, booster club members, etc. If you are willing to volunteer, please let me know so I can give them your name & contact info.
Friday 20 MAY – Night off
Saturday 21 MAY – 2nd Annual Alumni game at LSW Stadium at 6pm. We have between 15-20 alumni committed to play against next season’s team. All graduating seniors will play for this year’s alumni team. Come out for a great time.
Monday 23 MAY – Last day of school! We will also practice at 5pm to prepare for the Championship games
Tuesday 24 MAY – JV team plays for championship at 5:30pm vs Park Lacrosse at Rockhurst Univ. Varsity will play for the championship at 7:30 because we won the first two games vs Blue Valley and Sion. I dream of a LSW Championship night…wouldn’t it be awesome for both of our teams playing in both championship games…that’s the stuff dreams are made of.

Well, that’s our schedule. I know it’s busy, but we can do it! As a club, we just need to win 4 more games (3 for Varsity, 1 for JV), and we will be hoisting the trophies! Let’s start strong tonight!
