This Week in Girls LAX - Week of 13 FEB 2017

Posted by Jay Hertzler at Feb 13, 2017 9:51AM PST

Hello Lady Titan LAX Family,

As we draw closer to the start of the 2017 Spring season, I wanted to get everyone up to speed on what’s coming so we can make sure everything is taken care of before the start of the season:

- 2 more indoor sessions (14 & 21 FEB).
- For those selling coupon books, you must turn in the money to Mr. Rasdall by this Friday 17 FEB.
- Outdoor practices start on Monday 27 FEB at 5pm on the practice field directly behind the tennis courts. Practices will start promptly at 5pm, and will for from 5-7pm Monday – Thursday.
- The first week of outdoor practices will also be our Varsity tryouts. We will announce the Varsity roster at the end of that week.
- Every player must register with the Kansas City Girls LAX website. (www.kcmgla.com) I have attached a “How-to” document. Returning players should already have a profile, and new players will need to create one. When registering, please make sure to register as a LS West player and place the player on the Varsity roster. I will adjust the rosters after tryouts. This is mandatory per the league, so please make sure to complete this ASAP. Any player not registered on this site cannot play in league games
- The first week of games starts the week of 27 MARCH. The first draft of this season’s Varsity schedule came out this morning, with our first game scheduled for Monday 27 MARCH. This schedule is subject to change, but we will prepare the team as if this date is firm.
- We will need every player to have a current sports physical turned in to LSW, and each player’s US Lacrosse membership needs to be current through 1 JUNE 2017. We will reach out to players/parents individually if you are on the “naughty list”.
- Clash of the Titans/Mandatory Parent Meeting – Each player and at least one parent must attend the Clash of the Titans session with Jeremy Hubbard to be qualified to participate in extra-curricular activities. I would expect a large percentage of players have already attended one of these sessions this year (either Fall or Winter) if they already participate in another activity (i.e. volleyball, basketball, choir). I will be conducting a mandatory parent-only meeting following the Spring Clash of the Titans session sometime in March. If you have already attended another Clash session this school year, I would like for the parents to come to Mr. Rasdall’s room later than evening. If you have not, I will need you to attend the Spring Clash session, then have the parent(s) go to Mr. Rasdall’s room right after to attend the parent-only meeting. I will be discussing the upcoming season, coaching expectations, and answering any questions you may have. I will send out more details on dates and times once we know when the Spring Clash session is.

I think that’s it for now…I’ll be sending out more info as it comes along. I am really excited for the start of this season and cannot wait to get started.

Core Course GPA Program

Posted by Jay Hertzler at Jan 25, 2017 11:22AM PST ( 0 Comments )

Hello Lady Titan LAX Family,

I just received an email from Mr. Hubbard about an exciting new program for any student who wishes to play a sport at the collegiate level. This will be an online resource for both the parents and the player to keep track of all the required courses required by the NCAA to play in college.
Core Course GPA is a new resource in the district for students that are interested at playing at the NCAA Div 1, 2, or 3 level. This resource will help them figure their core course GPA for NCAA. It has all of our approved courses in it. They can also put in grades for future years, so they can see how it affects their core course GPA for NCAA purposes.
I have attached the “How-to” documents for you to get registered if this is something you are interested in. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.

Note from the LSW Athletics Office:

Spring Sports: If you are planning to participate in a spring sport and aren’t sure if you have a current sports physical on file, please contact the athletic/activities office at 986-4008. If you are sure you don’t have a current physical on file, LSN will host a sports physical on Feb 11 — LSHS will host one on Feb 18. Check their website for details.

Note from Coach Hertzler:
Please note, if you do not have a current sports physical on file prior to the official start of the Spring 2017 season (27 FEB), you will not be allowed to participate in practices. The first week of practices for LSW Girl’s LAX starting on 27 FEB will be Varsity tryouts. Please make every effort to take care of this.

LS YOUTH Lacrosse 2017 Registration Now Open

Posted by Jay Hertzler at Jan 2, 2017 8:33AM PST ( 0 Comments )

Lady Titan LAX Family,

First, i want to wish everyone a Happy New Year. I am excited to see what 2017 will bring us. I cannot wait to get started.
Secondly, I wanted to pass along some information about the Lee’s Summit United Youth Lacrosse program in case you know of anyone who may be interested. Details below:
All,
Registration has opened for the Spring 2017 season of Youth Lacrosse (Boys U9 to U15 and Girls grades 2 through 8). If your child is in High School, please contact your high school program for information on their registration.
Some new things for this year:
1. We are rolling the cost of the US Lacrosse # into membership to make it easier for everyone to manage. If you have already renewed or purchased a new one, our bulk registration will be added onto your current one. You will not have to renew again until your child is playing somewhere else (club or high school)
2. We have partnered with STX and are able to provide starter sets of equipment at just above wholesale cost. There is an entry in the registration form where you can rent or purchase equipment. If you desire to purchase more advanced equipment, please look through the STX catalog on their website (www.stx.com) and contact us with your request at info@ulacrosse.org.
3. We are starting a uniform recycling program in order to save on cost and eventually lower the cost of participation even further. If your child is able to wear the uniform they had last year, please let us know that you do not require a new uniform when asked during registration.
4. KCYLL, the league that we play in with other clubs like Leawood and Brookside, has made some big changes that we are all excited about, most important of which is moving to a home/away format. This will ensure approximately half our games are played at Campbell Middle School.
We are excited for this season and hope to see you all return. Let us know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Tim Block
