LUSC Player Mentor Program - Now Taking Applications
Lexington United Soccer Club proudly announces the fifth season of the LUSC Player Mentor Program in which high school-age soccer players will have the opportunity to assist the coaching staff of an established LUSC team and serve as a mentor to young and developing soccer players in Lexington.
This program benefits Lexington soccer in many ways. Mentors benefit by having a chance to give back to the soccer community. They will serve in a leadership role that instills responsibility and motivation to continue their soccer careers, while teaching young players how to learn and have fun in practice. Coaches benefit by having technically qualified players demonstrate proper technique, and having an extra player to even up numbers and raise the level of the game. Finally, LUSC itself benefits by deepening the connections within the Lexington soccer community, and planting the seeds for future volunteer coaches.
Mentors will be asked to commit to one team practice per week and are encouraged to attend home games. Mentors will assist coaches, but not replace them. They will behave in a mature manner and serve as positive role models for their team sharing their soccer skill as well as love for the game.
Mentors may receive community service hours for their activity. Mentors are also invited to take the coaching course taught by Brendan Donahue on Saturday, April 7th. The details of this course are available on the LUSC website (“LUSC 3rd Grade Soccer Coaching Course” – bottom of page): http://lexingtonunited.org/attention-coaches-important-meetings/
Please contact Mary Trometer at register@lexingtonunited.org to register for the course.
