A Poem from some of the 2009 Players

Posted by Richard Hiscox at Sep 22, 2009 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

This was submitted by Kali Money as a collaberative effort that "we" would like posted on the web site. It sums up just one of the benefits of participation;

 You Start out not knowing
that you will be bestfriends
and that you will stay that way,
until the very end.
Team-Mates and School-mates
or whatever friends we are
we can always look up at
night and see eachother
in that shining star.

Tournament #2

Posted by Richard Hiscox at May 10, 2009 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

The weekend of May 9-10, the team went north to the Bat State Banditz Mother's Day Bash in Chelmsford MA. What a difference from the week before. The tournament was well run, well communicated and very welcoming. The results were about the same but against a tougher group of teams. The defense stayed pretty solid and the offense showed signs of emerging. Although we finished the weekend with a 1-4 record (doubling our wins for the season) the team played much better all the way around.

On Saturday we lost to the Central Mass Lightning, followed by a thrilling 3-1 defeat by the Southern Maine Flame (a quality team all the way around) and we ended the day by being shelled by the Firecrackers Fury, with a little assistance.

Sunday morning the girls came with an attitude! We (#12 seed, out of 12) met up with the #8 Seeded Conklin Raiders and pulled off a 7-6 upset making the weekend. Next up was a great team, the #1 seeded Middlesex Crossfire, we did not truly show up for this game, although there were bright spots, and we went down in a 5 inning mercy 10-0.

Our older Blak team was defeated by the same Middlesex Crossfire in the semi-finals. They finished the weekend 4-2.

The team knows a bit more of itself now and confidence is growing. Next weekend it is our own Rose City Rumble.

First Tournament of the Year

Posted by Richard Hiscox at May 10, 2009 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Our young team took to the field for the first tournament (EVER for 8 of the team members) at the Valley Fusion Tournament in Prospect CT. After a horrible Saturday, due to weather and nonexistant communications from the host organization, the team finished the weekend with a 1-3 record. The sole win came against the Watertown Rapids in our second game on Saturday. Defeats were to the Valley Fusion Gold (later avenged by our "Black" team), The Stratford Seahawks, and finally the (xxx I need to check). The defense was a pleasant surprise, although work has to be done, it was solid for the most part all weekend. The offense was a cause of concern with all the time and energy put into hitting, there was little evidence of any payoff.

Our 12 year old team faired much better going 7-0 to take the Tournament Championship!

Attitude

Posted by Richard Hiscox at Jan 24, 2009 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude to me, is more important than facts, the past, money, circumstances, failures, successes, and what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company, a church, a home, or a team. The remarkable thing is that we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for the day. We cannot change our past,,, we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way,,, we cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can change is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you also. We are all in charge of our attitudes. Here is wishing you a great attitude, it's your choice! image
