Tigers Thump Blue Jays 9-6

Posted by Greg Deger at Apr 9, 2005 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
On a beautiful Saturday morning, the Tigers came out ready and focused and addressed the problems that plagued them in their previous game. Having accomplished what they needed to in the pre-game, the Tigers came out swinging and looked phenomenal. Four different pitchers appeared in the winning effort including Grant Kopps and Erik VanWinkle, who both have ERA's under 2.00. Michael Plaisance and Dexter Taylor also had very strong outings on the hill as the Tigers' pitchers struck out 13 of the Blue Jays they faced. Surprisingly strong hitting was also present in the game as the Tigers pounded out 8 hits for 9 runs. Kenneth Hou added 2 more RBI's in the game to bring his team-leading total to 6 and Rory D'Alleva, Michael Plaisance, and Sebastian Velasquez continue to hit over .300 at a .333 clip. Michael Moler also swung the bat strongly as he has the past few games, bringing the Tigers some much needed pop while reaching base 2 times out of 3 plate appearances on Saturday. Daniel Walters joins Erik VanWinkle as being the only players on the team to have only struck out once this season, and Nicholas Liu rounded out the strong offensive effort by reaching base 3 times out of 4 plate appearances and scoring a run to bring his team-leading total of runs scored to 4. The Tigers look strong all around and have their eyes set on Wednesday's game against the White Sox.

Tigers Drop Tough One 5-4 to Indians

Posted by Greg Deger at Apr 6, 2005 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
The Tigers followed their outstanding season opener with a less-than-inspired performance on a cold and windy Wednesday evening. While strong pitching was a definite highlight and the season debuts of Michael PL and Daniel Walters showed promise, the defense was lacking and led to 2 unearned runs which proved to be the determining factor in the 5-4 defeat. The season is early and the Tigers definitely have some bugs to work out, but they continue to work hard and look forward to their next contest this Saturday against the Blue Jays.

Tigers Take Season Opener 12-1 Over Yankees

Posted by Greg Deger at Mar 25, 2005 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
The Tigers had a strong showing in their season opener on Saturday against the Yankees.  Strong pitching led the way as three different pitchers combined to throw a 2-hitter with 11 K's and one unearned run.  However, the win was a team effort, and even though they were under manned with only 9 players, everyone 1 through 9 contributed and stepped up huge.
