August 2, 2015- Stringham Soccer Park La Grange NY
FC Dutchmen of the EDSL Capital District division became the boys of summer for 2015 as they won the Eastern New York Soccer Men’s-Under-23 title. The new champs did not give up a goal in the Final Four played at Stringham Park in LaGrange last Sunday, August 2.
These games for state supremacy pitted the top teams from the Capital District Soccer League (EDSL), the Greater Hudson Valley Soccer League (EDSL) and Long Island Soccer Football League (LISFL).
“This U23 Leagues comes together only through great cooperation between Eastern New York’s adult and youth associations,” commented EDSL President Peter Pinori.
In the semifinals, Ty Aderou scored in the 10th minute while Rafik Mehhoudi and Mike Fanelli added second half goals as the FC Dutchmen of Capital division of the EDSL cruised to a 3-0 win over the GHVSL’s East Fishkill. In the other semi, Port Jefferson of the LISFL defeated the GHVSL’s in the Final Four, LaGrange 2-0.
As the Rosedale Super Eagles won last summer’s championship, LISFL fans were hoping that Port Jefferson would keep the title in their historic league, which was founded in 1948. But coach Joe Duffy and his very impressive FC Dutchmen team had other ideas. Way Ayger scored in the 22nd minute and Connor Rubin added an insurance goal just before the final whistle to bring the championship trophy to Albany County for the first time in the seven-year history of the summer competition.
. “All in all, it was the perfect soccer day.” Said Enrico Romano SRA of Eastern New York

The first game at 10am had Westchester play vs. Cabo Verde the final score was 4-1 for Westchester, but the game was very competitive until the latest part of the 2nd half where Cabo Verde tried to tie the game and took many changes to change the score. The third place game was than played by Cabo Verde and Stade Breton which saw Stade Breton winning by the score of 3-0 Cabo Verde did win $300 for coming in 4th and Stade Breton won $500 for coming in 3rd.
The final game was played between Westchester and South Stars. South Stars scored first, but Westchester was able to tie the game. The final score saw South Stars win again vs Westchester just like they did 2 weeks ago on the Open division playoff final by the score of 4-1.

The Eastern District Soccer League had an historic day this past Sunday. Four of our teams travelled to the Verrazano Sports Complex in Brooklyn, NY to compete in three State Cup Finals. All four teams represented played well and in the end two teams were able to take home the State Cup!
The second game of the day featured one of the most decorated teams in the EDSL, Czechoslovakia. The Czechs are competing in the Over 30 division for the first time after many successful years spent in the Open division. In fact, just a couple of years ago they were able to win the Open Men State Cup. On this day Czechoslovakia were matched up with the Manhattan Kickers of the Cosmopolitan League, a multi-divisional league based out of the five boroughs of New York City.
This hard fought game was unable to be settled in the run of play as it ended with a score of 1-1 and needed to be settled, as with many other soccer championships, in penalty kicks. The Czechs, in the end, were able to edge out the Kickers 3-2 on PK’s and won their second State Cup Championship!
The late game pitted two EDSL teams against each other in a battle for the Open State Cup Championship. Honduras, of the Liga de Yonkers and Primo FC of the EDSL North Division faced off in a high-flying, action packed score fest of a final!
Primo, a team in its inaugural season with the EDSL, came out strong and jumped to a 3-0 lead in just the first 20 minutes!
It seemed as though it was a going to be a forgone conclusion at that point. However, Honduras would not give in so easily, and showed the true grit of a team that deserved to be in the State Cup Final. They continued to put pressure on and were able to make the game much more interesting than it may have appeared in those first twenty minutes. In the end, the deficit proved to be too much to overcome and Primo FC prevailed by a final score of 6-4. Both teams represented their divisions well and the EDSL congratulates both teams on incredible State Cup runs. Primo has set an incredibly high bar for itself in its first season and will look to continue its success as it continues on into EDSL post season play.
In the early game the EDSL was represented, once again, by the incredibly consistent Germania of the Over 40 division. Germania faced off with Astoria, of the Cosmopolitan League. Germania was unable to capitalize on the chances they created during the game where as Astoria was much more successful in that respect. Astoria won by a score of 4-0 and took home the cup. Germania is a tough team and have experienced much success over the years and they represented their club and the EDSL with great pride. We are sure to see them again in the final very soon. Congratulations to them on another great State Cup run.
League Notes: Sunday we will have our Open Division Playoff Final at Tibbetts field at 12 pm. The EDSL is also looking forward to our premium event of the year, the $5,000 Champions Cup, played on June 21st and 28th. Stay tuned for upcoming details on this awesome event.
